Windows 7 64bit and versaworks
Posted by Stephen Morriss on 22 July 2011 at 15:49Has anyone used Versaworks with Win 7 64bit yet?
I presume it’s working with 32bit version as it’s the current version of windows but again has anyone used it?thanks

Hi Steve
Ive used it for a while on win 7 64bit
it crashes the odd time with large files and you cant drag and drop pdf’s
into it for some reason, also On-Support wont work with it
Roland only support it on the Professional Ultimate 32bit versions which i haven’t tried,
there’s some info here http://download.rolanddg.jp/en/os_win7_color.html

Thanks Robert
To be fair I get Versaworks to crash occasionally on XP pro so it may not be a 64bit problem.
The latest update seems to have cured most of it though.
The reason I was wondering was that it seems a bit of a silly move now to buy a 32bit version when everything is going 64 bit anyway, manufacturers seemed to have dragged their heels a bit with it but now I’ve noticed that nearly all the big suppliers are pushing the 64 bit Win 7 more than the 32 bit.
My new laptop is 64 bit so I may give Versaworks a go on it and see how it performs, just thought though it’s only home premium.Steve

Been using all the above for 12 months now with no problems at all…… plenty of ram and processor power though, maybe that makes a difference?

On-Support is a program that runs along versaworks and monitors your printer,
it flags up ink levels and when a job has finished or if you have a head strike or any other problems, then it sends you an emailits brilliant, i set a job printing this afternoon and i got an email an hour or so ago telling me light cyan was running low then another 20min later telling me the job had finished,
i wouldn’t be without it, i live about 45min from my unit and it lets me print all night without worring

Right, not something I need to worry about at the moment then, my office is 30seconds away. Great for travel times but not so good for those people that seem to think it’s ok to turn up at 9pmon a Sunday asking about sign writing their van!
RAM was one of my main reasons for asking about the 64 bit version, As you’ll know when you get a job ripping and maybe another importing, Coreldraw open and maybe some other program left open then you are well into the usable RAM of a 32 bit system.
My laptop with 64 bit can have loads of programs running, I regularly have my 3D cad program running with 3 – 4 different models being drawn and a 2D cad program, browser etc open and it doesn’t even seem to notice.
My work computer which is only 1 1/2 years old and has it’s max ram running XP pro is a faster computer on paper but it’s struggling to keep up.
My thoughts were to buy win7 64bit and install it on the work computer, the Win 7 advisor program gave it a good rating and just advised about a few of the programs that needed updating or wouldn’t work, that way I’d get a speed boost from my computer without spending too much.Steve

I’ve got it running on my Notebook mate with no worries at all. Win 7 8MG RAM 64 bit.
Everything works as well 🙂

Thanks for letting me know, I’ll be trying it on my laptop in the next week or so.
