    Thank god it’s Friday.

This has been a frustrating week dealing with all sorts of problems.

First the guy that accused me of scratching his van – then expected me to pay to repair something I had nothing to do with 🙄

Then the customer that sends me a cheque in settlement of an overdue account and ignores the most expensive invoice on the list. And when challenged then claims not to know what the invoice was for 🙄

Then the company employees that call me in for a meeting… only not to be there on the day. 🙄

Finally the customer that expects me to supply him with a magnetic Nobo board for the same price as it’s costing me to buy in – all because he can’t be arsed to source one himself…"But you will get to put the graphics on it" he says 🙄

This job would be alright if it wasn’t for the customers 😕

I’m sure there must be a way of working this business without the need for customers 😕 nothing but grief.

My very quiet week started with a big ‘trade mark infringement’ issue with a customer of mine asking me to replace all of his signs FOC. hmmm
A couple of calls and an email or two later and the dispute was comfortably resolved in my favor.

Yesterday I went and saw the great Peter Normington who was working a couple of miles away from me..what a fine job he was doing and always nice to catch up personally with someone from the boards, he is a real lovely guy and I hope you got back safely Pete.

Other than pretty dull 🙁 and looking forward to a better and busier week next week.

    My week was a clusterf*ck.
Monday the 4th we went to go to the field and the concert but it was full up by 1:30pm. Went to my sisters and sat in her yard drinking Labatts and listening to her neighbor incessantly sanding her deck with a small electric hand sander.

Tuesday went to the Big Butler Fair with Rach and the baby but it was 90° and was like being in a big frying pan. And I didn’t get my chocolate covered cheesecake. And I saw the creepy guy who I dated from the dating site in the sheep barn.

Wednesday a guy called who was referred to me by my sister’s boyfriend, he whined about the price of a wrap he was quoted, then sent me over another sign companies’ sketch wanting me to copy it.
I told him I couldn’t, and I wouldn’t put something so nasty looking on his truck anyway. That night I met a new guy from the dating site, a cool neat guy who’s buying out the sign shop of a former lowballer. But he went to high school with my niece and still has a crush on her. That’s OK though because he’s a new friend, and I can fix them up.

Yesterday a guy came toting a small beat up correx sign, wanting me to peel off old letters and replace them. I told him I have a minimum fee of $25, he said he only paid $12 for the sign originally.

Today is finally picking up, I got two checks in the mail and the go-ahead to start work on these two projects.
(there’s a lot of other crap I could complain about but then I’d sound like a whiner)
    Love….Jill

Ive had a mega busy week… nothing "bad" as such, just the workload getting me down a bit. chuck in a member off staff on their holidays and it feels much worse…

had a clown that has owed us money for a good while now, finally tracked him down and he said… very arrogantly…
"yes the work you did was for a large shop in the centre of glasgow. along with its other branches it has went into liquidation, so your bill cannot be paid so thats that…"

    our reply was…

    "and what?"

    he says…
"do i have to spell this out, they went bust owing hundreds of thousands. you will be at the end of a long list. so your better cutting your losses and accepting it"

    our reply…

"you are a design house, you designed the internally displays, the window graphics and relevant signage. you subbed all the work to us. we produced to your spec, and installed all to your spec"…
"we then invoiced your company, and we are now chasing YOUR company for payment"

    his reply…

"but the company went bust, so nobody gets paid!"

    our reply…

:lol1: "sorry, but no. it doesnt work like that"

    to be continued! 😕

Like the skip car ian… is that just a car with the skip shape formed around the boadywork of a convertible mate?

Cracking story Rob…love the gall of some people.

This week feels like has been spent driving…well actually Kamran was driving and I was clenching and checking my seat belt (the A85 is not a straight road)

Monday: Drive 130miles from shop (Dundee) to Oban to fit signage (17m & 8m fascias)

Leave 10:30am – arrive 1:30, work for 8 hours straight (fitting to marble clad frontage!), kindly fed by the owner – along with all of his staff who were working late to get the store open. Take a walk round McCaig’s Tower as the other lads hadn’t been to Oban before. Leave – and back home for 2am.

Tuesday: Trialling a new guy who’s been in the industry for a while, but well out of practice since his business went south. Fitted a few signs and dodged the rain storms.

Wednesday: Simply MUST get artwork & quotes done for various people as the books are overflowing.

Thursday: Was convinced it was was Wednesday having lost a day in Oban. Fitted signs for local sandwich shop and some others…picked up more work.

Friday: More final artwork for print. Car wash being fitted next week, takeaways, nail salons, convenience stores…going a bit mental and KNOW I’ve not done everything I need to.

    Tomorrow – Saturday:

10am – fitting window vinyls in Blairgowrie….then driving up to Elgin and Invergordon – a 500mile round trip….to measure up for more work we’ve 100% got. Will be back well after midnight I suspect.

No nightmare customers, just endless (3 a day) sales calls from some call centre wanting us to switch energy suppliers…and ‘losing’ a few people as soon as we mentioned "plus VAT"…WE pay it…so YOU have to pay it too.

    their is hell here too….

1: i seem to be installing a PC on a MAC for one of our designers for monday, learning curve indeed
2: Earlier this week, our almost 1 year old compressor that is in 24hour operation lost compression, swapped out for another same model
3: The replacement compressor has now broken down and need to supply air to our printer!
4: Our UV printer may finally get sorted out, but support staff cant prepare themselves very well.
5: Working part of the weekend also to try and get banners out the door
6: Borrowed a Leister Uniplan Banner welder, very complicated indeed and yet to get good results.

I got myself a new car finally!! and finally saw loads of new printers/kit at William Smith/Spandex and Roland

lots of things to master at once…. heat… airspeed… movement speed… keeping it staying in a line… making a track for it to run along… holding seems together… it either does it well or it makes a mess.

    Learning curve indeed.

Well here’s hoping their advertising campaign and charm will sell their food because there’s nothing there that would make me want to eat from that! 😕 :lol1:

This kind of arrogance is unquie to advertising agents, they are a breed apart, I tend to stay well clear of them, large deposits and all quotes plus 20% just becuase we have to deal with all the ego’s and the messing about.

Had to enforce my Terms & Conditions, by refusing to supply a customer until he paid an overdue invoice.

Payment made, and another nice job done, and a friendly chat with their accounts department. They get quality jobs on time (within 24hrs usually), so all I expect is payment on time. 😀

Did an install the beginning of the week. What should have been a 10 minute job, of sliding out the old sign, and slot in the new one, turned into a 4 hour job – luckily though I now charge either 1/2 or full day rates so no loss to me. Just ended up drilling out the rivets from the bottom of the light box, to get 1 half of the sign down.

Customer was happy though, and paid me :lol1:

Sent a proof for a banner which got finalised and then when they collect it notice there’s no phone number or e-mail address. Which wasn’t on his original sketch. So goes off and returns 5 minutes later with a marker pen!

Spent some time contemplating carrying a stock of t-shirts and trying to get more use out of my plotter/heat press.

    It’s been a big week…

Packed up our house and our business into 3 vehicles with trailers and drove 2500kms to our new location.
Living with relatives while trying to find a new business premises. All the usual headaches associated with moving, and setting up a new business…

    Cheers
