  • "News of the World" Newspaper closes on Sunday.

Posted by Robert Lambie on 7 July 2011 at 23:29

Just heard briefly on the news that the News of the World will close its doors due to recent allegations of phone hacking.

I find the abrupt close of doors not only a bit of a admission of guilt, but possibly some sort of way to stop the digging by authorities into what i can only imagine one hell of a can of guilty worms with famous or high positions to boot…

I did occasionally read that paper and others like it…
so i am guilty of funding their practice, but watching how their 150 odd years of being a great tabloid and such a sad ending. i couldnt help but smirk…
"who gives a damn about them, they have ruined so many lifes over those years for nothing more than lining their pockets." they are no better than the true criminals they have maybe helped bring to justice amongst the countless everyday body caught out for whatever… nobodies an angel, but doesn’t mean they deserve to be used and abused for the sake of selling a news paper.

anyway… as i said, just caught some of it…

now thank god it wasn’t the Sunday Post… don’t think i could do without my weekly fix of Oor Wullie & The Browns, now there’s real reading for you! 😉 :lol1: :lol1:

The people who have committed crimes might deserve it Rob, but what about the innocent workers who may now find themselves out of a job. Do they deserve that.

    I think not

yep, newspapers have changed a lot over the years and the way press get hold of information.

One thing I not seen anything of, as I am learning that this is about mobile phone hacking voicemails, why did it happen in the first place? network operators security practices?

I mean, is it just a pin number you need to get past? is their someone on the inside? how does it happen? Are they running a random number generator against pin numbers thousands of times?

So what has been done about this "lapse of security"… am i missing something here? Maybe I missed the info, but is my own Voicemail safe by my own network provider? How about re-assuring the public about our phones

Never mind, SundaySun newspaper is likely to be a hit lol

Oh this is gonna be on google shortly, i suspect the site wil get a lot of hits lol

Rupert Murdoch has too much power. His newspapers shape public opinion and our puny politicians have to bow to his wishes to have any hope of being elected.

The recent "Scandal" Involving Andy Grays’ sacking for being sexist was simply a shot from Murdoch to tell people like him to shut up (Andy Gray was involved in a legal battle about his phone being hacked).

Murdoch is the real villain and the real power that we should be afraid of. Thankfully the wolves are beginning to close in on him now – let’s hope they can finish him off because if they don’t…. we’re all doomed. 😕

Of course not, but everything comes at a cost peter and the sad thing is there are always innocent casualties.

"we" are the lemmings that listen and beleive, even act on everything we are fed by the media. that goes for tv and radio also. so when you are a high and mighty voice such as the News of the World and your out breaking law and ruining lives on a daily basis for nothing more than lining your pockets, you deserve to be "brought down in the same way" as they do others and thats under the public eye.

sad thing is, as has already been said, they will close on Sunday and re-open under a different name the day. just like so many companies do on a daily basis. and we all know how that feels when companies owe us and go into liquidation one day, open the next!
do we/you really care about the delivery driver, the cleaners etc. then??? course we dont!
