  • Starting to wrap my mercedes, advice needed please?

Posted by Nate James on 9 June 2011 at 12:38

Hi there just starting to wrap my Mercedes 190e, never done any wrapping before but i have started on a few small bits on my car and it has gone not to bad. only problem i had is when i put my boot lid out in the sun it bubbled? What is the process i should go through to prepping the panels as i feel the panel was way to greasy and lifted?

    Thanks

Probably down to poor preparation and not post heating properly. Try doing a search on the boards as it’s been talked about before.

If you are serious about vehicle wrapping then get yourself on a course. That will sort out any problems you have and teach you to do it properly.

    Nate, welcome to the boards.

Wrapping is not something most people can just do, it is a craft that needs to be learnt, and practiced.

What material have you bought, and how did you apply it.

The boards are a good source of advice but to do a wrap you first need some basic experience, so like Martin says if you are serious you need do a course,
    good luck

    Nate,
As has been said, wrapping is a tricky business until you get a few vehicles under your belt. It is a good idea to practice on your own vehicle to begin with. Problem is you can waste LOADS of time and material trying to get it right. Working in the dark as it were. Try and make the effort to get on a course. They range from 2 to 3 hundred pounds upwards and are worth the investment. I would suggest a few months experience honing your basic skills before attending a course however. Have you been fitting vinyl long as this is important for you to grasp some of the techniques?

Good luck though as it is very satisfying to wrap a vehicle.

Poor prep does not normally make bubbles, post heating on a boot lid is not usually necessary, its basically down to application, so can you describe how you applied? that may be the problem,
