  • Advice on Upgrading Cutter or buying a cheaper cutter?

    Its time to go bigger….

I need to upgrade to a bigger cutter as I currently have a CE5000-60 at moment and would like at least a 48" cutter.

But not sure what to buy? As I would like to keep the CE5000 but do I sell up and buy the bigger brother or do I buy a cheaper cutter for larger stuff which I wouldn’t be using as much anyway.

I know the cheap cutter idea is a "No Go" normally but undecided.

I wouldnt buy a cheaper machine, I would look around for a good second hand or ex demo if you dont want to pay for new then sell your old machine. I bought a mimaki 1600fx for £1400 like new was offered it for £2500 I put it up against a graphtec ex demo and made an offer. I prefer mimaki we have another that is over 12yrs old used every day and never needed to replace cutting strip or break downs.

If you do get rid of the graphtec, i could be interested in it, i’m in no hurry.

    Craig,

I was at the same crossroads. I chose to add to my CE5000-60 and few days ago went for Mutoh SC1300. It is old as hell, I currently have problems connecting it (but have seen it working), but once I’m through this hurdle I know I have a bulletproof workhorse.
I was considering a new Chinese ‘£500 shipped’ machine, but then, as it usually turns out- you get what you pay for…

I’ve decided to make the jump, i saw one on the horrid yellow auction site but contacted the person and no reply and now they have removed it. 🙁

So i am definitely on the look out for at least a 48" cutter. Just unsure to go for the Graphtec CE5000-120 which I know and love or to look at other alternatives which offer the same quality.

I’ve definitely decided against a cheap Chinese one as they are rubbish!

So any help on other recommended cutters would be ace.

depends how you see your self developing in the future, if going to print then i would say the FC8000 130 i have a fc7000 130 but would like the 8000 for a extra feature.

the 130s take the 1370 material normally used in print
if no printing involved then any of the big names will do as required.
