  • Awning / Canopy Vinyl

    Evening all,

Can anybody suggest a suitable vinyl that will stick to
a woven fabric material awning. I’ve tried oracal cast and
banner vinyl samples that stick initially but I’m not convinced
    they will last.

Supplier opinions so far are to use heat press vinyl and iron it on.
This could be tricky as I can’t remove the awning.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated

    Dan

APA truck banner vinyl, I would have thought this would work. We use normal banner vinyl onto motorsport team awnings and it has worked fine aslong as it’s folded away properly.

    Thanks Gareth,

Quite possibly, APA have sent me a sample which I’m
going to test tomorrow, fingers crossed.

My guess would be that it won’t last as you would like. If it’s a woven type canopy then your options are really, heat press vinyl or screen inks I would have thought.

The canopy’s that Gareth has mentioned for motorsport teams are normally made from a pvc type material the same as truck curtains which is why the APA vinyl works well.

Thanks Martin, I’ll give the sample a try anyway but I fear you could be right.

Cheers Chris, I’ll give them a bell in the morning.

    Thanks

If the awning is waterproof as I would expect it would be, then a heatpress textile vinyl should do, but you need the right one. A normal vinyl for shirts etc has a penetrable adhesive and so no good, so you would need a film that the adhesive is designed to sit on top of the waterproof layer.

Thanks Nigel, some more testing required I think.

Cheers again Chris, just spoke to someone at contender.
Very helpful + samples on the way.
