  • applying decals on rear window (internal or external)

Hi, got a small enquiry to supply and fit some vinyl window text on ford fiesta. is it best to reverse cut and apply internal or on the outside of the glass?
Just a bit worried the heating elements may ruin the vinyl if fitted internal?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Alan

If the back window doesn’t have a wiper i fit on the outside just because the colours look alot more vivid but if you do an internal fit the heating elements don’t normally effect them.

    as glen says…
though sometimes if the colour is white or bright yellow its fine on inside, even without a wiper. but outside application certainly does keep the colours vibrancy.

Hi Alan – I do a lot of rear windows for my other business colleagues in cut vinyl.. I do mostly on the outside to show up well. We don’t have many problems at all with wipers. If we do I just make and post a couple of letters for a few bob extra – most times it’s because the person has scraped them off in the icy weather!! My personal car has had various different logos and lettering inside and outside with no problems. In most cases the customer will ask for inside or outside so just go with the flow and keep outside for better visibility – stay inside to keep customer happy if req!! Hope this helps.

Wipers don’t generally cause a problem if the vinyl is fitted correctly, lighter colours will show up a lot better on glass. Some dark colours almost disappear in certain light conditions even when fitted to the outside of the rear window.
If there is any kind of tint on the back window this will also make text & graphics more difficult to see if they are fitted internally. The darker the tint the more difficult they will be to see obviously.
