Painted letters required

Hi All

Following on from a precious thread regarding painted letters etc I keep getting enquiries for raised letters but in wierd colours.

How do you approach these and what is your prefered way to colour letters.

The job I recently done I used the inks from Apollo and rolled and brushed the ink on, it’s messy and takes a while to do especially on smaller letters and would be so much better if they were sprayed.

I used spraypaint from B&Q on a job a while back and the brown turned grey after a few years (strangely though I did the same on another job and it’s still fine 😕 )

So when you have to match a colour for raised letters how do you do it?

I get cans made up to RAL or BS from a local Co. – scotch pad to key then prime & paint.

I wouldn’t use paint from the high street.

Can you give more details, who from and what materials are they suitable for and what primer etc

Could you try taking them to an auto body shop?
You could prep the letters and they could prime and paint?

yeah that’s another option but like to do things myself when possible so trying to find as many options as possible to determine which is the best for me. Tim’s is good as it’s really easy to spray but making sure you use the right paints etc are key. The ink I used for my recent jobs worked great on Foamex but would love to have it in a spray rather.

Hi Warren

I have only ever painted Composite.
I buy 1 pack paint in a can from a local company that mixes paint for the motor trade and also decorators etc etc.

They always give me a high build, quick drying primer to suit.

I guess for foamex you would need a primer more suited to plastics like bumpers and such.

Warren, first you have not said what material the letters are to be made out of, secondly refer back to your last posting on this subject, you obviously did not follow my recommendation if the letters are made out of any sort of plastic.

I’ve never painted foamex with it, but I’d imagine softside would work fine. It’ll stick to the plastic folding dutch blinds are make of, and it’ll stay on lorry tarps, has to work on foam.

Other than that, plasticizers and spray them.

To be honest Mike I can’t remember why I went the other route 😳 :lol1:

I don’t have a particular job at present and was just hoping for a variety of options really so I had the knowledge when the queries arose, looking back it seems your way is best so thanks again. maybe this time I will listen 🙄 :lol1:

Just went on to their website, tried to ring them but number doesnt exist???? Looks like a good product too. Have they gone under and started up again under a new name?

Well another enquiry and yes their phone number doesn’t work, I remember now last time it didn’t work and I never got a response from my email to them.

Mike do you have a different contact for them?

I just phoned them from my colour swatch number and lo and behold the "number is not recognised"
I will take a turn past there when I get a chance to see if they are still trading.

OK just phoned one of my customers who shares the same building as them and they have confirmed that they have unfortunately ceased trading. A great pity as their product was brilliant.
There is another company that was associated with the same product (the two owners fell out with each other) but I don’t know their name but know where they are. I shall call by and see on my way home.

I took a turn past the other company this morning and it looks like they have folded as well, no signs on the building at all and all locked up. Signs of the times I’m sorry! 😥
