What is the law and what is urban myth?

Client has asked for some guidance and have told him its not allowed but happens.

As I understand you can’t go on road signs or traffic signals as you breach highways act. To be charged though you have to be caught putting them up and its the person installing that is the guilty person.

Anywhere else lampposts, railings, stake a side of road is local council/ highways agency. They will remove and not sure if true or not but its claimed can bill you.

Anyone know of anyone actually billed for removal?

    Cheers

    I wouldnt even go there.
all signage is sublect to regulations, and yes you can be fined and charged for removal of fly advertising.
if your client wants to stick them on traffic signs and lamposts, then let them do it themselves, let them take the risk.

i think with regard to lamp posts etc you must have permission from highways and byeways.

for private land you are often presented with a ‘6weeks to remove’ notice, that is why (often) you’ll not see party election posters and trailers being slapped in hedges and dumped in fields until 6weeks before an election.

I have no absolute proof or experience of the above 6weeks, a friend / customer/ landowner who actively campaigns for a party told me this, i guess he would know since he does it at every bye, local and general election!
