Finishing of labels
Morning all
A lot of our work on our JV33 is large graphics for varying applications, but we do also a fair few labels too. Most are reasonably smallish quantities, hundreds sometimes more.
The finishing is a pain in the rear end. At the moment we are trimming each out on plotter then cutting on a sliding guillotine afterwards, long laborious work.Anyone got any top tips on a better method of doing this?

cant you half cut with your plotter?Peter

Hi Steve,
We half cut with our Mimaki cutter. You mught have a setting somewhere for your plotter to do the same. Basically, it cuts through the backing paper but leaves six I think spots where it has only cut the vinyl. That way they stay in place and be popped out when packing.Peter

Yes, I think we do have that facility on our plotter, we have never used it though, thought hadnt crossed my mind. Doesn’t the plotter chew it all up if has big gaps with the cutting? We have the Mimaki plotter, must get it checked, be interested to know how to take the labels apart afterwards? tear them, or still cut?

the mimaki plotter will half cut, no problem, you need to set it up in your software and in the control panel.
first you do your normal contour cut, then do a half cut after moving the blade holder to position 2, (I have a separate holder for this so leaves the normal plotter blade sharp)The half cut in effect perforates the backing paper, leaving the label in position til you "pop it out"

I made a PDF up years ago about how to cut on a CGFX cutter. The Finecut software is a great bit of software and when you get the half cut right, it’s a real help.
PM me if you need it and I’ll have a rummage for it.

Jason, I’m sure there is software to make this possible with a Versacamm but I have no experience of it I’m afraid. Mimaki Finecut is exclusively for Mimaki plotters.

Just done this as an example,
the job was set up in signlab, including the serialisation of the numbers,
but, halfcut does work well on the mimaki, and saves time.
the labels at the front were popped out to showPeter
