Best way to cut rolls of Vinyl
Hey Everyone!
Just wondered what everyone’s preferred method of cutting down rolls of vinyl is.
i.e. 48" Roll down to 2x 24" Rolls

Favour from your best supplier…there really is no ‘home remedy’ for doing it well.

Hi Craig, best way is to tape the roll up as tight as you can with Masking tape ( hopefully it should have came tight rolled) and use a pull down saw if you have one, with a very fine toothed blade!
DON’T CUT DOWN A ROLL OF APPLICATION TAPE THIS WAY THOUGH!!!

You mean a Mitre Saw? Thats what i thought but wanted to check.
You sound like you have been there and done the application tape thing. Does it not work the same?

haha no never done the application cut but had bad cuts sent in and there murder to pull out!
yes the Mitre saw will do it, the finer the blade the cleaner the cut. Just keep the roll tight. -
Like Dave has said the best way to ask your supplier to supply in 2 x 2′ lengths as most will slit for you. Having said that I have had to cut down a full roll on occassion when I couldn’t get a smaller roll quick enough for a job and used a mitre saw with a fine negative rake blade. Same as is used for laminate and ally. Did the job not to badly but would always get it slit by supplier if I had the choice or time.

a lot of faffing about but you could put it in your cutter and just cut the full lenght of the roll, do a 3mm stripe down the middle, remove it cut the backing paper job done, just means a lot of re-winding of the vinyl back onto the tube especially if its a 50mtr roll 😕 , at least you have nice straight edges on your 2 new rolls. 😕

i personally use a rusty old saw, and the vinyl runs from 610 on the plotter to about 250 is this right 🙄 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: 😀
