  • Where to buy better media holders/flanges??

Posted by Phillip Patterson on 6 October 2010 at 16:56

Just a little annoyed with my media holders for my sp300. with the heavy rolls the media just slips out of the holder regardless of using the rings with the screws to hold it secure. I need better holders and i have read that the summa holders are really good on the boards. can someone enlighten me and where would i buy the perfect holders?????? currently I can’t do unattended printing witn such a problem.

    thanx

    Hi Phillip,
do you use the white washers on the bars to hold them in place? Used to have this problem all the time then we moved the washers into the reels and locked them off and its never happened again? Hope that makes sense!

    cheers

p.s. we have sp540 but i presume you have the washers on the sp 300

I’ve stopped using them, found when we put a big roll of banner on them (even with the rings fastened up next to them) it would eventually wiggle so much the media was tracking off course.

Our tech guy suggested ditching them, tracking has improved no end. Just dump your roll of media straight on the chrome rollers, fasten the cogs to the edges (not too tight though) and its fine. Worth experimenting before you buy any more anyway.

I don’t use mine at all, pain in the butt. Just sling the roll directly onto the rollers and wind a meter off to reduce tension. Keep an eye on it and keep rolling the vinyl out as needed. Simples!

must admit do also roll out a metre or so of material to avoid tension!

about 2-3 years ago roland brought out a redesigned set of roll carriers with the screw tightness adjuster on the side.

after all that they are just the job.

    Hi guys,

Dint know you can put the media directly on to the rollers. can this be any media?? also if the roll is heavy will it damage the media?? I am looking to buy the media take up unit and am after a new set of holders to make it suitable for unattended printing. so will need to buy these from somewhere. any clues??

For years I have put the media directly on the rollers.

The only thing to remember is to take the media off the rollers when finished. If you don’t , the weight of the roll of media on the rollers will ‘dent’ (the only word I can think of) it and this can give you some issues when printing on that media next time.

I tried using the roll carriers a few weeks back and got a couple of feed motor errors because the carriers did not fit perfectly in the roll core and as a result tried to splay out on the rollers and just jammed up.

So I put the media directly back on the rollers and no feed motor errors.
