  Background removal

  Hi

  I have removed the background from a photo of a person only leaving the person. Which is the best format to save the file too enable me to import it into Corel to allow me too easily place and outline around it for print and cut on my Versacamm.

  Currently it still has the boundary box around it, I need it to have a path following the outline of the figure.

  If you are using Corel there is no need to take the background off, just use the powerclip function then you get a boundary which you can use for cutting.

  Many Thanks Chris the tutorial was very helpful.

  I was originally trying to use photoshop CS3 to remove the background, anyone using mask pro 4 ? how does it compare to the fluid mask function in sign lab ?

  If you’re not competent with the pen tool, you could auto trace in Corel and expand the path, then import the image behind

  Or if you’re in PS, once you’ve got rid of the background, you can ctrl+click the layer, then do:

  Select > Modify > Expand (set a number depending on your job size)

  You’ll get the marching ants around

  In the path window (Window>Paths) click the Make Path button

  Then File > Export > Paths to Illustrator

  In corel, import both the saved JPG/TIFF and the "path" .ai file
