  • What’s the best way to cut ally framing?

I’ve got to cut some corner mitres on some fairly large detailed sign trim extrusion.
My hand mitre saw just won’t get a good straight cut all the way through and the joins are just not good enough.
I have a Wickes cross cut saw, can you get fine toothed blades for these or what is the best way to do this?

Peter, you can get blades suitable for ally, usually around 80teeth,
It is better if you can also get hold of some wax to lubricate the blade before each cut.

I have yet to find anything that can cut perfect miters. I invested in a chop saw that can cut steel, aluminium and wood with the same blade. Best £100 I have spent (apart from my ground breaker)

Not quite this model, mine is green not orange, but otherwise the same…

I agree unless you have a proper set up, ie, bench mounted saw, you will struggle to make perfect angles.

I bought an 80 tooth blade and works a treat but wear goggles as makes a mess. Have cut many frames but on the floor and you need two of you ideally if cutting down 6mtr lengths.

Go with the chop saw, it is the best investment ever, quick, correct and right first time every time.

Chop saw every time – but a metal cutting blade is essential or the aluminium WILL bind to it.
Worth spraying with silicon lube if cutting soft alloy.

Thanks very much for the replies – I’ll get a new blade and give it a go.
