  • BIO ink…stinky.

Just started topping up the carts with Colorific BIO as opposed to the ELITE…and the room stinks. Windows open – but it’s rank.

Whether it’s due to being run on a mixture of the two I dunno, but not liking this one bit.

Gone is the familiar ‘solvent’ odour (that I didn’t mind one bit) to be replaced with something altogether sweeter and nauseating. Like a floral perfumed ‘Mr Sheen’…makes me want to gag.

S’pose this is the price we pay for progress. :vomit:

It’ll take a while, but you do get used to it….sort of.
It is a bit strong, stronger than the old inks I must admit. The odour is made worse by the warm weather, and wait till you print onto banner material….whooohoooo!

Kind of glad I went to Rolans Max inks then!
    No or little smell.

I did consider the bio ink as I was using Elite but couldn’t find any profiles for the sp540v to use with Versaworks.
I was also warned off it, but reading your comments I may have been fine, still too late now 🙂

Joking aside, i really do not think it is a case of it being a strong smell at all. I think it is that its a very "different" smell to what everyone is used to. as i said, too me it has a sort of marzipan sweet smell, its noticeable because your like, "whats the smell" but as soon as you get used to that smell being around you completely dismiss it after that.

regardless to how little or how much smell you get with your inks, you should ALWAYS have the proper extraction setup.
Just because some inks don’t smell as much as others. it makes them NO SAFER. just because you cannot smell or you get "used to the smell" doesn’t mean the harmful chemical vapors arent there. THEY ARE and by law, you should have an incoming and out going extraction fan fitted at minimum.

BIO inks are better for the environment and are less aggressive on your machine parts. so not eating into plastic tubes and parts like the stronger inks do, and don’t seem to Gel/solidify just as quick either. that’s just my sorta "sign maker" take on the benefits. 😀 so your company is seen to be greener and your machine gets benefits from it too. so forget the sweet new smell part, there are benefits your not considering when based on a like or like basis.
I personally went for the Greener approach scenario as this is the route i am taking on as many aspects of our company as possible.

Then again you could go a different route altogether and go for the new Latex or Water Based ink machines…
    😀
