For you guys a simple question im sure
My colleague and I have a pretty succesfull business wrapping parts in 3M dinoc and detailing cars, we have also had great succes in wrapping roofs, bonnets, spoiler, bumpers etc. Weve been doing this for a fair while now and using 3M DiNoc and Avery inter is the norm.
We have our first full car wrap to do this week and our question is about the doors. This particular car is a simpole solid colour so not so much of an issue but if it had a pattern how would you trim around the doors. There is only a 10mm or so panel gap between doors and pillars so unless you do each panel seperately I would say there isn’t enough material to cut down the centre of the gap and wrap back around the door or slam? Thats if you had a steady enough hand to cut central of that 10mm

Just run your scalpel down the edge of the door, angling the blade slightly away from the edge by holding it at an angle towards the pillar. this will leave a mm of vinyl to finish the edge of the door, then fold in the excess from the pillar.

Thanks Peter. A mm or 2 is enough to adhere then? I always have to leave quite a bit more than that with DiNoc or it doesn’t stay down.

if you can, cut it down the centre and wrap it around. more is better!
once you have it in place, open the door and go down it firmly with a felt squeegee whilst applying some heat to help cure and prevent dog-earing of the vinyl. -
