  • How’s this done in x3?

Posted by Andy Regan on 30 June 2010 at 18:48

Just spent ages trying to fit this straight graphic (the middle one) into the curved arc on the right. . I’ve tried the powerclip & mesh tools but it always looks distorted & uneven. . So any of you genius’s out there Know how to insert the graphic so it sits snugly in the arc in perfect proportion?

I can upload as vectors if you want to try it!

I don’t know for certain but grouping it and using the envelope tool might do it

    Hi Andy

Could do it in signlab or illustrater? Not too sure about corel, not my game!

I think it always WILL look a little distorted as it wasn’t designed with the curve in mind. The inside will look compressed and the outside stretched.

It might be worth manually placing the elements in the arc and tweaking them by eye.

    Totally agree David…

You can’t make a rectangle fit an arc without distortion…

Signlab would do a good job but not what your probably after so yes, tweak by eye after dropping the single entities onto the arced image.

Upload the vectors – worth having a bash at it.

Oh. . I’m not allowed upload documents from here David. . Do I have to do it from the off topic forum. . but then it won’t be part of this thread. . will it?

Pity Corel never utilized that little gem in that used to be in PSP from years back when they took it over . .COPY. .PASTE INTO SELECTION.

Have a look in FILE SWAPPING.

Tweaked it as a basic vector manually. Can find no way in ANY software to do it without distortion…as you ARE distorting it.

Bit of fettling and I think it’ll be fine.

When porcine livestock take flight over a frigid hades…

no seriously – it took 5 – 10 mins to manually jiggle things about as a plain vector.

That pattern was actually a mirrored version of one set – modified one as it took half the time.
