Can anyone help me with my query please regarding temporary roadside signage?

A customer of mine has asked for small signs which he can stake in the ground indicating the direction of an auction which at the end of the day he can pull up and take home. What i am trying to find is a stake which can be belted in with a heavy hammer (customers request) to which a sign can be fixed.

Have shown him the Stikit signs from Grafityp but they’re not what he wants.

Is there a supplier out there or does someone have a good idea about how to fabricate a suitable stake?

    Thanks

    Tim

I have made stakes with what we call Bullwire: heavy gauge galvanized wire used for fencing. Cut lengths and put a bend in the top and then run them down the channels in Corriboard and push into grass verges. The hook or bend in the top stops the sign coming off the wires. Worked really really well. You could also bend them in a U shape.

Thanks for the tip Harry. I think the customer wants something he can belt into the ground. It gets windy down here and he’s afraid his signs could get blown away.

    Hi Tim

Our local garden center sells what I think you after. They are a stake that you hammer into the ground that hold a piece of 2"x2" wood in them, at whatever length you need. Simply push the wood into it and hammer the metal pointy bit into the ground as deep a required.

I think there classed as small fencing stakes.

What about a 75mm metpost stake?? He can hammer it down into the ground, bolt in a small section of 75mm post and screw the sign to that…. the wind wont shift that.

I made 150 campground pitch markers using 1 1/2" "T" section ally profile. As these things are in and out of the ground frequently, the "T" section takes a good walloping!!

If this is of a more frequent temporary measure, why dosent he knock some tubing into the ground with a smaller diameter tube to slot inside………. Drill a hole through both for a pin to stop it spinning in the wind. Simple to put up and take down

Some good ideas here guys and thank you for them. I think the idea of a permanent post and another to fit in its place is the best option. Will go off and cost these up now.

    Thank you. Tim
