Moving head up on versacamm
Posted by Paul Seamer on 15 April 2010 at 08:07Hi guys,
I’m trying to print onto some printable magnet but the head keep slightly hitting the metal arms. Was told to move the head up a bit? If not I just thought about printing with no arms just pinch rollers?
I HAVE JUST REALIZED THIS HAS GONE INTO UNIFORM PRINTERS & NOT ROLAND PRINTERS. IT IS A ROLAND VERSCAMM SP300.

metal arms – if you mean the media clamps I very rarely use these, only when i get to the very end of a roll and the media has more of a curl.
I have found that the media clamps are responsible for breaking the tip of many of my blades. I bet if you check yours there will be a line where the tip of the blade has scratched it. Now I always remove the blade if I have to use media clamps.

Keep the arms on – there should / will be a lever to the LHS of the print head carriage to lift it up & down. (Take the RHS cover off.)
Raises it a couple of mm.
Also setting in the profile – HIGH HEAD – dunno what difference it makes in reality…I’ve not noticed any difference in print quality.

Right now I am a little confused. 2 people saying different things. I have always used the media arms as that is what i was told and thought you had to do. I have had a look and I cannot see a lever to higher the heads on the side of the print head?

Which printer have you Paul a 300 or 540? Only the 540 has the head height adjustment. I always use the media clamps they keep the edge of the vinyl flat so you shouldn’t get head strikes if no clamps used vinyl can pucker up. Roland didn’t just put them there to look good there is a purpose to them.

Hi Steve,
I have the SP300 so that solves why I can’t find a lever to change head height. The material is for printable magnet so that is why it is slightly catching the media clamps. Is there anything I can do as I really need to get this job finished by the end of the day?

Have you tried increasing the vacuum to help it lay flatter??
Just an idea

Paul I wouldn’t try to put the mag through you have to much to lose to risk it. I would print on vinyl and apply to the magnetic, only thing I can think of.

Will try the vacuum in a bit. I really wanted to use the printable magnet as it will be easy for me and the main reason for buying it. Will have a play around and if nothing else workings then printing on standard vinyl it is.
