Can the Epson 1400 be converted to pigment ink using CSS, I want an A3 printer that uses pigment ink, I can find a couple of A3 printers that use the pigment ink but they are twice the cost of the Epson 1400 which does everything else I need.

    In a word
    Yes.
give John at continuousink a call not sure if they do pigment ink or not but they do the bulk systems for the R1400 as I have bought one for dye sub work.

    Guys,

Not sure about anybody else, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with the epson printers including the R1400.

Heads constantly blocking even though the printer was being used regular enough and heads were being cleaned constantly.

Mine is sitting in a corner at the moment and some day I am going to bring it outside and drive over it in my van.

I believe the Ricoh range give a lot less trouble although I wont be buying one of these as I have since moved well away from sublimation priniting.

    Darren.

I would be careful if you go down this route, you may be able to buy a continuous ink system for it and fill it with a third party pigment ink but you may struggle getting the right colour profiles. Most companies don’t seem to offer pigment ink for the 1400 so I would leave it alone. Your looking to run a business so if the initial setup costs a bit more it will just take an extra week or so for the machine to pay for itself.

After some thought I have decided against this as I need the colours to be spot on and have opted for a Canon pigment printer, however for anybody who’s braver than me Dom Global do sell this printer complete with a pigment ink set up.

I use a 1290 and before that used a 1290 for dye sub and it lasted until I had way way overfilled the waste pad, nozzles blocked sometimes but always cleared as do this one but the ssc utility always sorted it.
I have had no bad experiences with any epson printers using dye sub or pigment inks. I have a 1290, a 1400 and a R800 just bought an sx215 from asda for 40 quid too just to do T shirt transfers as it uses the durabrite pigment ink
