Advice on wrapping wing mirrors in 3M Di-NOC
Posted by Nicholas Gormley on 4 March 2010 at 23:22Hi, I have a customer who wants to the wing mirrors of his VW Golf MK4 wrapped. Having looked at them I think I’ll have to wrap the inside first as some of it is seen and then do the outside. can anyone give me any advice on this subject or tips?? they are been done 3M DI-NOC so I want to try and stop stupid mistakes. Any help would be great.

Di noc is very easy to use, I cant give advice on how, because its mainly down to practice and experience, you will need to do it to find out if you can.
given all the advice on how won’t mean a thing in practice 😀Peter

Does that line go right through the mirror? As in you can cut on it and not scratch it? If so two pieces one back where the glass is then the other the front. Don’t stretch. Heat relax apply repeat. Don’t try and heat and stretch the film to much and apply in one big go. So that works but it won’t hold up.

make sure they are really really clean. Make sure your wrap will go right to the edges and more…..worth having a good amount which you will get your fingers on which you can pull on and then remove after (cos greasy paw prints dont help adhesion) …If you can fix em to a bench, leave them on the car or get another pair of hands to hold them from the inside it would prob be helpful….and then as Peter says…….just go for it and BE PATIENT….if anything will test it….wrapping will.
make sure you have spare print just in case.
good luck

How did the mirrors go Nicholas, I’ve just wrapped the wings of my van, VW T4, 1 in the material from the Grafityp course and 1 in APA Carbon Effect, not bad if I say so myself.

I done a mirror as a trial. Ill post a picture later. the outside applied no problem but on the return inside the mirror the vinyl bunches up and causes a few creases. Anyone wrapped these mirrors before?? the customer thinks its grand but am not happy with it as its a bad reflection on me. any help would be great.

Looks ok to me. I’ve got some of the 3m c/f but not used it yet, have tried the APA c/f on the wing of my van, wasn’t too bad.
Did you find it awkward on the return, coming inside the actual mirror?

Found it a bit awkward on the return inside the mirror and the material bunched up a bit. Think practice is just the best way to get it right, tho if there was another way to do it I would love to find out how???
