Copyright issues
Posted by Phillip Jhonson on 17 February 2010 at 19:31I Have alot of printed samples in my unit such as the local football club and, redbull, and other such companies. I was wondering if this would be an issue in anyway. They are there just to give customers a feel of what i can do and produce but fear if it would be an issue if the wrong person came into the unit.
thanks
Phil

…why advertise what you can’t sell? 😕
Although probably not much of an issue owning them, it’s the producing side that’s frowned upon.
A seriously picky representative might pull the copyright issue simply for displaying your version of their image on business premises or ‘miss use of their logo’ as they have no affiliation with your company, nor wish it.

Apart from myself I have seen a few companies who do this, making for example coca cola, redbull stickers just to show the customers what we can do.

I agree with David, why put yourself in a vulnerable position. Just display what you have produced then you will have no problems.

I dont think it is showing people what you can do, by copying designs.
would it not be far better to show people your own examples of what you have created?
anyone can print or cut recognised brand names, they are mostly freely available to every man and his dog.Peter

In all seriousness – and not even a hint of cheek in what I’m about to type:
Why do it…is it likely to impress anybody that you can print / cut ‘stock/stolen’ brand images of fizzy drinks & football clubs?
Is it not FAR better to produce some original artwork that you are proud of, or, do some of local companies you’ve done work for.
I have on my ‘sample boards’ (still to put back up in the new place) things like you mentioned. eg. Local football club, national supermarket chain, car brand logos…but I actually do/did supply them through official channels to the companies in question…more of a portfolio than a simple random collection of knocked-off logos.
What other companies do shouldn’t be any real concern – it’s better to stand out from the crowd and impress with original ideas or ‘real’ work you’ve done than be a generic ‘sticker shop’ with the same stuff.
