  • Why is my Grenadier clogging up so quickly?

Posted by David Graves on 25 January 2010 at 15:32

    Hi Guys,

I’m fairly new on here but have found some of the previous threads really helpful, however i have not noticed anyone having the same problems as i am on this particular issue. I have had a Grenadier SP-1400C for about three years now and just recently it appears to be clogging up with dry ink ridiculously regularly….even to the point where i have to spend an hour some mornings pushing ink through even when the printer was being used the night before. It could be that my machine is not self-cleaning??? in which case what do i do??? Can anyone help??

can u see the pumps moving the ink… found a pump in our jv3 the other day where it got dried ink in the tube before the pump and after it was ok, so new pump

    Wot Dave said

Most likely the pump is faulty. Remove the drain bottle (so you can see the discharge pipes) and carry out a self clean and watch the pipes. If no ink discharges you need a new pump

Changing the pump is very easy and straight forward.

We use colorific elite ink and perfect colours is our supplier. We have been using them for about a year.

I think i may need a new pump as previously advised.

It could be a case that the damper caps aren’t sitting hard on to or perfectly aligned with the heads. This can let in air into the system. You can pull ink back through again with a syringe if need be. We found that our head carriage was slightly bent ( the joys of buying form B+P ), to stop the ink drying overnight we have to wind up the dampner caps at the end of every day. Hope this helps. It’s just one of the many things it could be with these machines.

    Regards

I would look at the pump first and then the capping stations, check the rubber seal around the edge for signs of wear if their damaged it wont seal so the pump can’t pull the ink through the head. The capping stations are recommended to change every 6 months if memory serves me correctly.

Thanks for the numerous replies. I am now in the process of checking all components that were suggested in the thread. I will post my results in case someone else has the same issue in the future.

    Cheers Guys
