AI to CDR file

Hello all ,I have quite a few AI images but if i try to import into Coreldraw x4
it wont open because of its compression now i dont have a copy of Adobe illistrator so is there any other way i can open this file and save it into Coreldraw thanks

well for ‘visual’ reasons…. you could rename the extension to PDF and u see it in acrobat reader. If you got a PDF maker you could try and print it within acrobat or post it in file swapping and hope someone can help u

AI images won’t have any compression if they did they would be in a different format in which case you would need to uncompress them before you could use them in any programme.
Try setting it to AI in the "Import filter type" box in Corel.

Sorry ive not made myself very clear what ive done is downloaded the name fender as an AI file from botw then once ive downloaded it to my pc i tried to import it in to Corel draw as i dont have illustrator and a message box comes up with the following

The file you are trying to import is compressed.To import the file,you need to resave it without compression.
Now i cant resave because in need illustrator to do that.So this is why i was asking if there was a way i could change the file extention somehow to a CDR extention so i can open in Corel draw.

when I download anything from botw I open it first of all (opens automatically in corel) then save it(it saves as cdr) and then use it as I wish.

Hope that makes sense.

is it the Fender file that you are addressing to Kevin?
That is a EPS file generated from FlexiSign-Pro but imports perfectly into CorelX3.. confused…. all i did what drag it into a new file

Illustrator can have compression but it is unique to Adobe and that is why certain versions of corel can’t open it. I have Acrobat V5, that can open compressed AI files, I resave as eps and that usually works when imported into Draw.

Update – another Corel user sent me this tip so I’m pasting it below. I’ve not tried it yet but if it works credit goes to Ian.

A way around that has always worked for me is to save the ai file then open into adobe reader (i hav v 9), save a copy as pdf then imort (using specifically PDF file not all files clicked) into corel… as said never has failed for me.

You might like to pass it on for others benefit
