  • can anyone help with major printer problems?

    Hi guys and girls
Happy new year to everyone… hope someone on the boards can help me solve this disaster i am having with our uniform cadet plus printer.

Not sure were to start with this problem, it has been on going for 4 weeks now and we are still no further on and i am losing alot of work due to the printer being down.

it all started when i was printing, the machine suddenly stopped and displayed that there was a scan motor error and to turn off power which i done on turning the power back on and trying to power up the machine there was no power going to the printer even the LEDs on the side did not light up so i contacted the only tech guy i knew of which we are very short off here in Northern Ireland he said it was the power unit which would need replaced, to cut a very long story short i have now replaced the power unit, servo board and the scan motor and the machine when powered up is displaying "press the power key to clean" when this is pressed then i am again getting a message saying "scan motor error 0040 0040" even though this motor has been replaced.

I am now being told i need to replace the main circuit board at a cost of £1500 for just the part and it just seems i am replacing all major parts within the printer until the problem is found and am being told that once these parts are installed there is no returning them which seems really strange as i feel i am just paying a fortune to rule things out, so not a good start to the new year at all for me not to mention the serious financial complications this is causing the business.

If there is anyone who has experienced these type of problems or a tech guy who can give some advice it would be greatly appreciated as i am totally stressed with this and i dont really no what to do next.

Sorry Dave – I can’t help at all but I feel for you. I have occasionally had scan motor error messages on my Cadet – but this has always been cured simply by turning the power off and back on again. Your problem is obviously more serious. Hopefully you will get a positive response here and an answer to your problem.

Thanks Phil here is hoping, really dont no what to try next when powering up the machines not even engaging the head carriage or cleaning process which is causing great concern that this will cause head problems all i am able to do is syringe some ink from the heads each day to keep the heads wet.

    cheers

Dave, I had a scan motor error which is quite common, I can’t remember if it was 0040.. it could well have been.

Could not print past the first 1/2 metre it just stopped dead, not the same problem as you. But I would try downloading the latest firm ware which I found suggested on an Italian website through google, I did it and hey presto all was fine.

As Tim has found on Google, definitely worth a go.

Thank you for the replies fellas, after reading your replies i done allot of research about the firmware situation and have downloaded the new Roland 3.3 version, would any of you know how i check to see which version of firmware i am currently using, also when i was downloading the latest firmware the only compatible firmware i think would be correct is 3.3 version for the Roland Sp & VP 540 do you know if this would be the correct version to use for a cadet plus? i am currently using wasatch troop v6.2 if that helps.

I’m doing allot of reading up on this stuff and learning allot of new and interesting stuff about these printers, just trying to rule out all possibilities before having to resort to replacing the main board, I also noticed a battery type battery on the main circuit board which looked as though it had been removed and not placed back correctly which i believe this is a back up battery that stores all the firmware settings or so I’m led to believe, would anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks again guys for your replies in helping me try to resolve this and thank you in advance to anyone who can help with the above questions.

    Cheers

    Dave

    Hi David,

It’s a nightmare, we had a similar problem with our grenadier a couple of months ago. It turned out it was actually a power surge that had blown the (Head)Motherboard, power board and control panel. Sounds expensive. It was. £2500 to fix. As well as the lost printing time.

I would say though that on the powerboard there is a fuse that that can be easily replaced and might solve the problem. However if it keep blowing then a new motherboard is the only option. The cheepest we found was http://www.digiprint-supplies.com. The are based in Belgium.

Hope you get it fixed soon mate

have a look for the roland chassis plate i think a cadet plus was a sp540 but not sure.

as you switch the machine on the firmware ver is shown briefly on the screen.
