  • Printing on aluminium foil- any ideas?

Posted by Emma Louise Oates on 26 December 2009 at 12:53

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what inks etc are suitable for printing onto tin foil? I see there are companies out there who do it, printing, embossing etc etc but I’m wondering what equipment would be needed for this? Just for a bit of a ‘decorative purposes’ idea! Any help mucho appreciated 🙂

A belated Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year to anyone reading 😀 *hair*

Try doing a search Emma, pretty sure someone was asking about printing on to foils recently.

there is embossing but not printing on it.

Embossing with foil say for cards, is done with a stamp and lots of heat in a press

I don’t know with regards to "tin-foil" or do you mean chrome foil/polyester type films? if so then thermal printing will work from the likes of a gerber edge, roland pc6- or pc600, summa dc printers etc

im guessing im wrong, just thought ide mention in case. 😀

    Hey you three,

Thanks for your replies- was for tin foil Rob lol but good advice anyway 😉 I’ve been hunting around all day and found a few interesting snippets online so will continue my search. Embossing info is interesting… Can’t find anything on here but will try having a look through agai as I’ve probably missed it!

    Thanks again 🙂

I think the more common term for the foil embossing Dave mentioned is "hot foil blocking".

We don’t do it, but we do use HFB presses and high-frequency weld tools that are very similar to foil blocking tools. Exquisite things machined to fantastic tolerances from solid brass.
