  • Checking Heat Press Tempreture

    Hi Guys,

I didn’t know where to post this so feel free to move if needed.

Is there a way to check the actual heat press plate temperature? I have had my heat press for around 4 years and for the last 6 months i have used 1 material and been very happy with it. Recently on a few I have had a few patches come up after pressing on the actual vinyl and sometimes not actually sticking on the corners.

Could the press be miss reading? Any Ideas?

    Paul

Thanks for the rapid reply. The pressure was pretty high. Tough enough that that you have to push the arm down. To much pressure maybe?

I have done various tests on my two machine 1 8yrs old 1 2yrs old and it is normally a pressure problem, not temp!! On my first machine we had to change bits around the 4 year mark, might be worth a chat wih the person who sold it to you! what machine is it by the way!

Not sure of the actual name. I bought it from Spandex. It’s blue if that helps? Seen very very similar ones at the sign show etc. Up until 6 months ago it never got used that often.

I use an infra red temperature gauge, you can check the temp of specific spots on the surface.

You can get laser thermometers from Machine Mart for under £20.

Bear in mind that if you have a metal finish to the heat platen, you will get inaccurate readings using your temp gun because of reflection, on a teflon or dark/black finish the readings are usually spot on.
To get over the metal finish problem, I stick a couple of strips of heat tape one on top of the other to eliminate the reflection and give a closer temperature reading.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers
