    Hi All

I am looking for an adjustable angle corner joiner for 3mm Forex. I am trying to make some 1700mm high Toblerone-box shaped displays, and need an extrusion for the corners that will grip the boards all the way up. Have searched all throught the toolbar suppliers but no luck. Anyone used such a thing?

    Thanks

    John

John, have you tried Jag ? They do something called flexi angle but not sure if it is suitable for 3mm

I rang them about the flexi angle and it would work, but it would need to be fixed using VHB tape or glue. These items are for point of sale and will need to be assembled by the end user so i was trying to make it foolproof. I am planning to use the flexi angle if I can’t find anything that will grip the board.

    Thanks

What about using a small velcro tag on each corner to keep it together or there must be some sort of drop nose pin that could be fitted to allow it to be built and taken down by customer. not ideal I know but if you end up using the flexi angle it is something to think about.

John, if you can’t find anything else it would be quite easy to make 3 rectangular frames (top, middle, bottom) which the boards could be fitted to with velcro. Then the flexi angle slide into place on each corner so all it was there for would be to neaten the whole thing up and cover the joins.

Thanks for the ideas people. The customer wants 30 of these stands by Wednesday and I’m flat out at the moment so I was going to have the boards UV printed by a trade printer (any recommendations?) and then just supply the boards and joiners together so I have minimal input. I think the JAG stuff will be the way to go…

It’s Wednesday today John, you better pull your finger out :lol1:

Ian, I was going to suggest a "V" groove and fold but wasn’t sure if it would be OK with 3mm, done it myself with 5mm board but never with 3mm.

Martin – they need them next Wednesday!!! Even so, as busy as I am at the moment I’m going to be hard pushed to do them on my own by then by printing then applying to forex, which is why I was going to have them UV printed. Good idea with the folds Ian. There are two sizes, 1700 x 630 and 1700 x 850. They could be done in 1 piece from a large board of 5mm, which I think I will go for. I just have to talk the customer into it…

    Thanks

Yer guessed that John but you have to have a bit of a laugh don’t you. Why the change to 5mm board? Pretty sure Ian will come back and say that 3mm will be fine. It will keep the weight down as well. If you do them out of 5mm then I doubt it will affect the price to much as you won’t have to buy the flexi angle, mind you there is an increase in production costs with the "V" groove so forget I said that !!!!

I have spoken to a supplier about the V groove idea, and they say that they have done this before, and had problems with the board snapping on the groove when cold so might be a no-go. I’m currently going to go with the strips from JAG and use VHB tape to stick…

    Thanks for the suggestions

John, I wouldn’t have thought you would need to go to the expense of VHB for something like that. A decent quality general purpose double sided tape should be suitable for the job.

dont use an ordinary v grove bit, use a dibond folding bit or even a 10mm straight cutting bit, it wont snap, if there is a flat area in the groove to form a radius at the bend.

Going to use 2mm Ali comp now. Looks nicer and I don’t have to worry about the strength of it.
