    Hi

I Cant get sign cut 2 to work when using corel X4. It is now been seen inn Corel , which is a start but I can not work out what ports to use on my Puma SP30. I want to use USB but the only two USB ports are Graphtec and Summa.

Any one have any suggestions I am onto signcut as we speak. If it works it seems a good 40 quid to spend.

I know its bad form to reply to your own posts but feel I might be able to save others hours of anguish.

I have finally solved my problem today.

Its not just a simple case of adding the USB drivers when it finds new hardware BUT you also have to add some other drivers in the add printer section.

I tried various demos of different software and nothing would communicate with the plotter but the VCCD software from GCC did see what the setting were so I kNEW the USB side of things was working.
The main problem is you do NOT have to do this for Summa USB devices or Graphtec devices so it kinds steers you in the wrong direction.

Hope this help any one who has a puma/gcc in future

Why not cut direct from Corel…???

Got the Jag III and threw the GCC software in the bin

    Not sure.

I cant see why people buy signcut in its various guises if its not needed??

If its easy to cut from Corel I am happy to do that if I can get some tutorials on the subject . The only ones I subscribe to are just graphic not plotter/vinyl related.

My main problem is relating the viewable area in corel (or any other cutting software for that matter) to the actual area in the Puma.

    Thanks for your reply

You should have the Puma loaded as a printer, if so, open the printing preferences and set the paper size to your plotter "cuttable" width by a couple of metres. Then use print preview to see how its going to cut……….

Might have to set the line width in Corel to 0.001mm and then hit the print button…………

Got it printing but just wasted 3 metres of vinyl trying to print 300mm stickers.. DOH

The sizes just do not relate to the cutter like they do with a printer.

Dont suppose you know of any tutorials??

    Thanks in advance

    yes they will

the corel page and the driver page must match.
set the driver to a normal ? page size say 585 x 2000 the save

ask corel to page size as the driver

I have been doing that Chris but when I select PRINT the blade goes from right to left and then an error light comes on.

I have tried new drivers, new cables different software but sadly it all seems to point to a duff plotter from what I can see now.

Unless any one has any more advice???

You were bang on mate. It was all about how big a piece of vinyl I had in the machine and the settings in the software and the plotter driver. I have finally got it printing only to find my Blade was blunt. While getting a blade I have seen some cheap machines that seem to have some better/logical settings and I am considering buying one as my son will be more interested in a larger 30 inch machine and will spend time learning the software. As I get older I find it harder to solve problems.

For any one who searches for this thread about a Puma II I now know how to set up the Pumma II from GCC and know what mistakes i was making.

Thanks to all who replied with advice.

pleased you sorted it from my poor description

    chrris

ps just my view but if buying a larger plotter go to a 4ft one 30 inch is neither here not there. and materials easier to obtain

Not sure why you would want to buy a larger plotter just now, the machine you have will do just about any of the work you are likely to do at the moment and as you have now sorted out how to work it you would really be best using it and letting it pay for itself before you think about a larger machine.
Not sure why you would want a 30" machine either, means that you are going to have to run it using 610 wide media or have the madia slit to a wider size which will cost you extra money. If you do need a wider plotter as Chris says you would be better off with a machine wide enough to take either a 1220 or 1260 roll of vinyl.

I know your machine probably hasn’t had a lot of use but it is still 4 years old and as such the price you can sell it for might be a lot less than you would hope for.

Well its now not cutting the bottom of the i’s or T’s in fact anything with a flat bottom………….almost……..if its an n the first stick bottom is not cut and the second one is. Very wierd.

As for the new machine I only have the choice of a 710mm or a bigger one which I am guessing is 30 inch but may be bigger,.

I know I should be paying thousands but I am so fed up with this ^&*( I am prepared to take a gamble…stupid but its a hobby so its not like you guys that need it to work 24/7 or at least when you need it.

Two reasons my son thinks this one is a toy and does not bother using it. But goes and buys loads of graphics which I can not keep affording. Its also not quite sorted in that as I say below it does not do complete cuts on vertical fonts (but does cut the second vertical on lets say an N) and even with the advice on settings when I try to translate to bigger sizes it just misses loads of the vinyl………doh. Oh and a third reason someone else is paying!

Thanks for the explanation unless its a 48 inch machine I will be better of saving a 100 quid and going for the 710 version. I can see why now.

Well to be honest thats my reason for asking. I THINK its was over 700 quid but guess I would be lucky to get any where near a 100 now though.

    Thanks for your advice.
