  • Advice on canvas printing- what printer

    Hi All,
I hope someone can take the time to give me a few pointers and direction into starting up with canvas printing and other fine art stuff.

I was recently offered a nearly new Canon lp24 for a reasonable price but have ummed and arrgghed over it. Some research revealed that they drank ink and also that the black is a dye and canvas printing is better done with pigment inks.
It has been suggested to me that I look towards an Epsom 7600. I have also been offered a rather nice Epsom 1000cf which tickles my fancy but exceeds my budget a bit at the moment and also at 44 inches exceeds the space I have available.
So the advice I’m after is…What would be a good cheap printer be for me to look at as an introduction please? I understand that canvas production isn’t for everyone as it is a hard skill set to take on board.

    Andrew,

I use a Canon ipf8100 which is a 44" 12 colour machine. I chose this machine, as following my research I saw advantages over the Epson. The print head is a user changeable part, the built in calibration system, as I have limited space the front loading was also a big advantage.
For fine art a 24" printer is ok, but for canvas you will struggle, if you want to gallery mount a canvas the best you will get is approx 16" on the short side.
If I can help further feel free to pm me.

    Frank
