why is cadet bringing up an error?
Posted by John McNickle on 23 September 2009 at 17:29hi my cadet 30 is bringing up an error when i turn it on
SCAN MOTOR ERROR 0080 0080, PLEASE TURN OFF POWER
Can someone help, i love my wee printer but it is beginning to break my heart!! every time 1 thing goes wrong a list follows it!! ink drying in the pump and pipes and now motor errors!

do you unplug it from the mains and wait a while before restarting it? Dunno if this will help but an option none the less.

This happens to mine occasionally – switching it off and back on again clears it

John,
It could be the scan motor ( the one that moves the ciarrage) is shot. I dont remember the error code anymore, but a SP 300 I used to work on gave that sort of message when the motor burned out. The motors last around 1500 hrs-you should be able to check on the printout the technitians make after servicing the machine.
Good news, it is not terribly expensive to replace, unless the scan motor caused a short which takes the mother board with it……as ours did.
Call a Roland / Cadet tecky, and start praying..

This can also be caused by a dirty or defective encoder scale.
The motor is told to go to a certain position, but the encoder tells the main board it is in the wrong position and you can end up with this error.
I’d try cleaning the encoder first.

have you cleaned the front AND! back of the encoder strip?

sorry george, i dont even really know what to even clean the encoder strip with, is the solvent cleaner to harsh? i got the only engineer there is over here to come see me in the morning as i guess the old girl needs a good service anyhow

ok got it serviced but now i hear my ribbon that slides with the head along the track could be on its way out, and its no fun to replace!! has anyone ever had to get this ribbon replaced, if so could you give me an idea of how much to expect to pay? as we only have one engineer over here he can tell us anything, and im guessing its not a fit yourself part!!
it also brings up service error 0106 sometimes or sizes the material and comes back as Width 0

Hi John,
Firstly I assume the ribbon cable you mention is the one going to the cutting carriage. The items required are as follows:-
23475207-00 Cable card 15PI 1900L BB – Roland SRP is £21,41
22305102-00 Guide, cut carriage cable – Roland SRP is £5.63I obviously cannot say how much your engineer would charge, but the job can be done in 1 -2 hours depending on engineer experience. When these items are faulty the problem normally shows itself in a "pinch roller" error either to far left or right.
The error 0106 is as pointed out by Steve a tool carriage disconnection error, whilst this is obviously related to the cable card the error being reported does not reflect this. (that is not to say they are not the problem). It would be worth running the "limit position Initialize " as this is used to compensate the distance between the capping position and the position where the limit sensor is detected. it also detects the distance between the cut down position to the limit sensor.
The lock down position is also relevant,which is set up by running the "Limit position Initialize". or it could be that the limit position sensor is dirty worth giving it a clean.
I am able o give you relevant documents on "sensor location and "limit position Initialize" if you contact me.

ok i sorted out the problems and the old girl is running great but when trying to get into service mode i get this message "SERVICE MODE IS PROTECTED" does anyone know how to get past this?

Hi John,
Good to know everything is up and running, as far as getting into service mode is concerned. This message comes up only when the incorrect keys are pressed. You need to take your time when doing this. Even after years of doing this I still have the same problem on occasions. I am not sure where you got the information from on entering service mode, it did change on one occasion and I believe it was down to firmware levels on the printer.
I must point out that by entering service mode there are areas that can cause you problems, should you press the wrong keys. Anyone who enters service mode and is not trained on the printer do so at their own risk.

Bit off topic but going back to the first post of 1500 hours for a scan motor, I sold my Roland last week and have just ad a look at the reports that we printed out on it and notice my scan motor is on 4600 hrs even better when you consider mine was the 74 inch wide model so the motor has to move the head much further than a 300.
