  • why am I getting a fuzzy print on my mugs?

    ok
printed some blue print to mugs and removed the paper very soon after coming out of the press, and the print looked nice and sharp.

after they had cooled down the print has a sort of clouded edge going upwards.

what i am thinking is the ink is still gassing from the heat of the mug. the last time i plunged a hot mug in to cold water it cracked. so any better ideas please.
or should the water be warmed up a bit

I always dunk them in luke warm water after quickly removing the transfer paper. Obv. the water gets heated up very quickly if you do more than a few mugs so I tend to cool it back down a little.

It certainly sounds like it’s the image creeping.

I would agree. The dunking in luke warm water is to remove the immediate heat from the ceramic as it will retain quite a bit of heat for some time and the sublimation ink could migrate. If it is particularly cold you may get away without putting a mug in water or if the images don’t have well defined edges. Putting the mug in boiling water would even be cooler than the 180 degrees heat of the mug press – not recommended though :-). So warm water does the same job as cold water from the tap and would avoid the shock to the mug which could cause it to crack.

thanks looks like i will try and some luke warm water.

it was annoying as it looked so good until they had cooled by which time i had done 6. so try again tomorrow.

Maybe try dropping the temp or baking time a fraction as an alternative Chris.
