Colorip to versaworks
Posted by R.Lamerton on 16 July 2009 at 18:30Hi,
Just enquired about upgrading my Roland SP300 using Colorip to use Versaworks, apparently its going to cost £1500 for a new board in my SP300 including fitting and the Versaworks software.
Is this worth spending this for an upgrade and what benefits would I achieve from Versaworks.
Also if i do this I would possibly change my Signlab 8 Print & Cut to Signlab for Versaworks? Am i going to achieve better results etc with my printing? 😮Stephen Morriss replied 16 years, 1 month ago 8 Members · 11 Replies -

Considered wasatch softrip? i believe there is a cheap upgrade for colorrip users

If you have Signlab 8 Vers 1 print and cut you can get a free upgrade to signlab that gives you the option to print directly to versaworks from signlab.
I currently have issies with signlab printing basically its poor Am getting it looked at now. For £1500 I wouldn’t bother just use colour rip You are getting on to the cost of a rip there and in VPM you can send it to another rip as far as I remember. I was fortunate my SP300 went to a 300V allegedly and got versaworks It is only the very early ones that wont go up without a mobo change as far as I understand. As I said Versaworks with proper profile 3551 and to sign and display output really spanks signlab strong vibrant colours. Reds and blues. -
Hi,
Thank you for all your advice, why doesn’t SL 8 Print & Cut print as well as other RIPS.
Blues come out with a purple tinge and so on.
Is versaworks the way forward for better colour reproduction etc. 😕 -

colour rip can print just as well, with the wrong settings and poor profile versaworks prints crap as well.

that’s unless you have had to hard some form of hardware installed in your machine to be compatible it guess. -
versa is not free if you have an sp300 Rob you have to have your board upgraded
-
yeh i know what you mean mate but the board costs about £600 does it not?
that’s kinda why the £150 price tag had me confused or is that the going rate for that model? -
I upgraded my Colorip to Wasatch’s Roland version for something like £190.00.
For this you get the 16 bit rip, up from 8 but to take advantage you need new profiles to take advantage of it.
I upgraded because it’s just basically newer and better, Shane from Australia did the same for the same reasons. You also get 6 months of free updates and support as well.
