  • Tearing the vinyl up – help urgently needed

Posted by Katrina Gattrell on 13 June 2009 at 09:00

    Hi

Just wondered if someone could give me some advice, when I am plotting my design to vinyl the machine is starting to tear the vinyl up. It is not a smoth cut it has only just started happening and as luck would have it when I have three big jobs to do. Any advice would be great, I have a signpal lynx S-60 it is about 4/5 years old now. I have tried cleaning the blade and replacing it, does anyone know where I can purchase a new one – could this be the cause?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hi

Is there anything wrong with the end of the blade, or the blade not turning correctly?

I would have thought they would be the 2 main issues.

Sounds like your blade holder is worn. Had this on a summa years ago. The blade may be rocking instead of spinning. May also be a simple issue of the blade offset being out.

I’ve just put a different colour in and its plotting fine. It does not make sense? Do you know where i can purchase a new blade?

    Thanks

Is the colour that cuts fine the same grade and type of vinyl that doesn’t cut?
If not you may just need to adjust the cutting force.

I thought you’d had the machine a few years? Never bought a blade before?

I have only ever used three blades since we have had the machine and they came with the plotter at the time. I have purchased a new one from target transfers which came yesterday but it’s the wrong size and I’ve just been back on their site and they dont have the blade for my machine.

With regards to the vinyl they are both econofilm the one that is cutting is white and the one that is not is red. I have adjusted the pressure on the side but its not making a difference. I must have been lucky so far as I have not had to make any adjustments to the machine its always just cut whatever econofilm I put in. So I’m not aware of all the different adjustments I can make.

    Can you post a pic?

Sorry, just had a look and you can’t on this topic.

You sure the blade isn’t chipped?

I’ve taken it out, cleaned it and the holder the blade doesn’t seemed to be chipped. Its quite frustrating as I have over 500 Tees to print…

if its cutting one minute and not the next…
if the blade pressure is not the problem…
then my guess would be it is that the blade is not spinning freely.

    take the blade holder out.
the part that moves along the gantry of the machine, firmly grip with fingers and see if there i any play/movement? this part can loosen over time and simply needs the screws holding it tightened. when loose it can cause irregular cuts and sticking of the blade spinning.

the blade holder itself. make sure its clean.
i would also let a few spots of WD40 on it and let it run down the inside of the barrel that the cutting blade will slide into. also on any other moving part of that holder.
the blade itself should be clean, but don’t touch the tip of the blade.
i would also put a spot of WD40 on that also. and pop it back in the holder. then back into the machine too…

Grafityp sell these type of machines. so i would give them a call and maybe order some new blades in the off chance its the blade. after that length of time you really should have had new ones by now anyway. if for nothing else than spares.

    hope this helps some….
