  • can anyone help me with a mug problem please?

Posted by Emily on 27 May 2009 at 21:01

i have been reprimanded at my Uni for using all the mugs, i might add i didn’t steal them, they are still in the room i used them in, thing is because of the problems i’ve had, i have used more than i ought to have. I have been told to replace them, I need to order some but to be honest i don’t have an awful lot of money 😥 I need to buy about 60 to replace the ones i used.

Best get on the phone to mum or dad then….70-80 quid should do it.

How did u manage to trash 60 mugs? :o…… not all fun and games this business malarkey 😉

lol, yeah phoned them, dad was none to pleased, i didn’t really trash them, but i have had serious issues with flamming and the paper being poor standard, something i tried to argue with the tutor, but she was having none of it, lol and said i want them replaced.

so i am currently searching online, just looking at listawood

    there not trash really.

we use the non perfect prints for our own use and customer refreshments can be fun when you offer the customer a drink with his competitors mug.

    try selling them as art.

joking aside i think its unfair to ask for you to replace them when the tutor can’t teach you how to do it properly.

    best of luck

i know, thanks Chris and Neil, haven’t ordered yet as listawood only do 10oz and are very expensive, i’m after 110z and cheap as chips, don’t see why i should be buying the best for them. (:) (:) 😛

Emily, get your Dad to ring the Head of Department….that’s ridiculous and I daresay against the law. Chris is right, the tutor should be telling you what to do. Tell him to point the Head of Department to the thread on here, and see that you made a genuine effort to do them right. And I would tell Dad to be at his angry best! 😀

ok will give it a go, but to be honest i can see her point to a degree, i did waste quite a few because she said why carry on with the problems when you should have waited until i came back to uni, so to a degree i can see her side, but it don’t help me none, lol

anyone wanna buy some mugs with pictures of me on , hahahaha

At the risk of being unpopular here but 60 mugs is a lot to go through when you are experiencing problems.

I would imagine the tutor has taken the tack of "you should of stopped when you couldnt get a good result" They are probably wondering why you didnt stop after 10 maybe?

As I say I may be unpopular here but just trying to see it from another angle.

On a lighter note – try ebay for sub mugs if you arent fussed what the quality is like.

I’d be careful about buying cheap ones, the tutor may turn around and say replace like for like after you have spent your money, unfortunately I don’t think a phone call from your parents will help as you are in Uni not school. It seems harsh but you have to take responsibility for this and bite the bullet. Can the tutor in the worst case scenario stop you progressing because of this?

    It’s quite a contentious issue.

    Good luck.

yeah it’s my fault, i take the responsibility for this, i should have stopped, but i got carried away because i was showing some uni friends how to do it, this is when i started having issues. she can’t really stop me progressing, but like she said to me, Emily you need to do the decent thing here and replace what in effect is damaged stock.

hey bet you all didn’t think you’d get a dozy like me on here, lol :lol1:

Just swallow it and try to get the replacements as close to what you used as possible. Getting ones of lesser quality isn’t really fair to the school.
Part of working in the big world is learning from your mistakes and taking responsibility for your own actions.
Next time you will be more careful and probably learn faster.
(I can’t help lecturing as I have kids your age, it’s the Mum in me)
Can you look at some sort of commercial restaurant supply store?
    Just a suggestion.
I hope it all works out OK for you.
    Love….jill

thats kind of you Jason, but i couldn’t possibly take those. Just rang me dad, he wasn’t bothered about the cost just how late it was…lol he’s going to lend me the money then i will get the other replaced with some like for like, like Jill said, will pop into see the tutor tomorrow and ask her. 🙄

Where did the Uni get them from in the first place Emily?

Do they not get any kind of discount on them?………I think I would be offering the money for them but at the end of the day they have to take some responsibility for the situation and order some more

60 does seem a lot to have botched. You need to start making some decent ones now to try and sell and make your money back.

If you are struggling to find decent cheap mugs I could probably sell you some. £50 for 60 inclusive of delivery/vat etc. They’ll be straighter than the ones you previously had from the sound of it. Rhino coated 10oz (I only use 10 not 11). Not ebay rubbish.

hey i have been given an old mug machine this morning by someone that supplied the uni, it’s old though but works because i used it this morning, it requires a new heat blanket. i think it measures 23cms by 10.5 cms

    or 230 mm by 105mm

anyone know where i can get that size from??

    😀

  • Emily

    Member

it ain’t no make, i can take a photo of it if you like..lol

to be honest after todays efforts which i may add were abysmal i am considering giving up a career printing mugs!! :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

i’ll stick to my graphic design , hahahah

seriously though i knew as much as the tutor. mainly due to being on here

first we had issues with the printer, it was printing purple instead of Blue, i knew instantly it was down to the ICC profile, which bemused the tutor and she looked at me amazed…LMAO Even then though i was a little lost, they had desings in adobe photoshop done with RGB 1998, but some were with a Rotech ICC, myway round it and it was amazing was to change the blue slighty, import the design and change it to the rotech ICC profile and then put the designs into Microsoft word

what the hell for you may ask…. the screen was saying the design was all these bright colours but it printed perfectly, and here’s the best bit, that design and word file can now be printed on any computer with the rotech printer profile without the need to worry about the ICC profile in adobe, which means you never need to worry about it in the future.

i am now Offically an SUB-ANOrak.hahahahaha

thing is i know i am looking for a heatblanket but seriously if i was doing this in business i’d be looking round for a mug machine to do the job with perfect results every time, it’s very hit and miss in my opinion

paper, ink, condition of the mug, heat, time, pressure

but what kind of machines are there that would do this, bet there isn’t any.

    anyway rambled on enough

enjoy the essay , i’m off to my bed…night xx

i brought me mug machine home this weekend to show my dad, thing is i bought a mug blanket for it and my dad put it on, it’s crap, worse than uni’s one, leave a weird blur at the end of the image on one of the sides. so we put the old one back on and now thats worse than it was, god this sublimation stuff is hard work!! that mugblanket cost me £30 and feel ripped off. now i need another, its 105 mm by 230mm maybe a bit more as i can’t straighten it.

the £30 one is knackered now:-( so my question where can i get one that good, not cheap and rubbish, dad is going to pay i think…lol

had that problem with my new one , i found that the push rod that goes bolts to the heater edge should not be tight to allow the heater to self center as it clamps.

trying to find a picture ?

the rod that goes from the Handel to the blanket edge.
making a T shape the bar which the blanket is screwed to should not be tightened right up. so that the bar can even up the pressure as pressure is applied to the mug.
as not all mugs are straight unfortunately.
