Corel 3x to Gerber Omega
Posted by Aydin Westlake on 14 May 2009 at 18:51Hi could any body suggest an easy way to import cdr files to Omega 3.0. I normally power clip my designs in to a template. I dumb the version down to 8, but when I try to import it Omega gives me an out of memory error.
Guidance would be helpful please

export as an .eps or .ai from corel and then import into omega

Does Omega import Illustrator (AI) or EPS files? if so export from Draw as one of these formats, a low version may work better – export text as curves and deselect ‘simulate complex fills and outlines’

Alan DThanks Alan will be trying all formats in the morning
Have used corel for many years but have only just got Omega to run a gerber edge FX and a envision 375

Export as an AI low version and import to Omega, works a treat

From Corel X3 and X4 you can also publish as a PDF and Omega should import the PDF fine.
When dumbing down the export (EPS or AI) from Corel or AI remember that there are 2 vector import filters in Omega 3.0, might want to try either one. The way we have set it up if one fails we ask you if you want to use the other.
If you have a file(s) you can always email them to me so I can see what the problem is.

For you Corel users x3 and better x4 I have a userinks.cpl file that contains all the Gerber Spot Foils. Corel has really offered no help in a number of problems using the palette or even creating it. It seems to work best in x4. If anyone wishes to use it just email me and I will forward it along – it’s not supported by Gerber, just me. Using it within Corel and saving a PDF you will get all your colors in Omega without having to reassign.
I also have a swatch file of the same for Illustrator CS3 and CS4.

Alan DHi Alan
when using corel, I powerclip up to 3 levels "Powerclip within powerclip" when importing into Omega 3.0 via ai or eps the filter seems to extract the power cliped items an overlay them over the top. Any ideas? also when saving to pdf (to import to Omega) any particular setting to use "pre-press, 1xa etc"any ideas?

Export the powerclip as eps, import the powerclip back into Draw, export that as AI and try that file in Omega.
