  • Changing software to Corel, cutting options.

    Hi All,

I’m thinking of changing my main sign making software from SignBlazer (which is quite good and user friendly to be honest) to Corel. I like the look of the new anniversary edition. I currently have Corel 10, so the learning curve won’t be a problem. The problem with SignBlazer, is that it’s not such a recognised product, so the support isn’t as good as others, and there are import/export niggles with it, and the screen display resolution isn’t great.

I have a Graphtec CE5000, so just wondering what my options for cutting from Corel are? I have read about Sign Tools, and Co Cut, but also there is the driver on the graphtec disc, but isn’t it a pain having to seperate each colour prior to cutting.

Do many on here cut directly from Corel using the driver?

What other options for using Corel do I have?

    Thanks for any response. 😀

might be worth asking whoever makes graphtec if they have a corel plug in. my summa d60 came with winplot as a plug in for corel, so was the reason i went with corel in the first place.

    cheers,
    Hugh.

Graphtec’s come with cutting Master which has some good features although I found it slow and a bit quirky with groups, just confirming what Chris found and he now cuts directly and will probably advise.
Cutting Master does come with Graphtec but you will need to download the latest version from the Graphtec usa site to use it with X4.
From what I’ve seen CoCut is one of the better featured add ons but it is at a price and may need upgrading if you upgrade Corel.

I thought it was just me who found Cutting Master slow. Im not exaggerating I can wait upto 5 mins from sending the job till CM kicks in.

So are Sign Tools and Co Cut the only true Corel plug ins, are they any others? Why can’t Graphtec make a proper Corel plug in. 😕

My Cutting Master boots straight up as soon as it’s launched. Never had any problems with it being sluggish. Only got 2gb memory on the main PC but I do find Corel can hog resources a bit if I’ve had it running all day.

Cutting Master is written by Scanvec (Flexi) and apparently is not slow with Illustrator. I beleive it uses VBA in Corel and that maybe where the hold up is, that said Summa’s Wincut/plot works in a similar way and that flies. Be aware that the plugins that come with the cutters will only drive that brand of cutter so if you’re planning to get another cutter at some point you may need to rethink your cutting workflow, there are cheap utilities out there which will cut to different cutter brands, A google search should do the job.
I always go back to exporting from Draw into Signlab, not sure if Cadlink do just a cutting module for Draw though.
