Corel draw – Another how to please
Posted by Jo-Ann on 3 April 2009 at 16:01Hi Guys,
I have been asked to create a line of text using a font called
Albemarle Swash, a really fancy font, which looks great for what the customer wants it for. However it has to be the most anoying font ever.
I enter the line, try and expand it by dragging it, but it then condenses it but makes it taller.
Does anyone know what i am doing wrong. Not sure if it’s a Corel thing or just me again.
Thanks guys.

Does dragging a corner node enlarge it proportionally OK.
Alan D -
Hello, No when i drag it it makes it taller but shorter in width if that makes sense, it seems to condense it
-
Does it seem ok when you start to drag but snaps when you release the mouse button?
Alan D -
Yes thats exactly what it does, the outline goes perfectly to the size i want it, then when i release it it shrinks to a silly size.
Why does it do this? -
Ok, A little better, it will let me make it wider but now taller?
Thanks by the way
Did i forget to tell you i am learning as i go 😳 -
Using the corner nodes will enlarge proportionally, side nodes will expand or condense length, top and bottom nodes will expand or condense height.
Hold the shift key when you drag and the sizing will be from the centre of the object, particularly useful if your object/text is already centred to page/position and needs resizing.

Did i forget to tell you i am learning as i go 😳forgive me if i’ve got the wrong end of this,
do you want proportionately increase both the length and the heigh, or just the length.
I ask because it seems you’re disappointed it gets longer but also taller.
are you meaning you want to simply spread the lettering out without stretching anything? ie kerning.
if that’s the case, write out your text, use the shape tool and click on the text, the arrow on the right will spread out or condense the lettering without altering height or physical width of the individual letters.

aye, it’s unreal how many tips we miss out on, I had Rich urquart down here a couple of months back and he showed me a few things i’d never thought of!!
with the shape tool you can also adjust the angle of letters individually when using ‘text to path’, and also select only the letters / lines / sections of the paragraph you want to enter. also close the lines tighter or expand to fit a box.

Hold the control key down and the word space will alter, just drag and the letter pace will alter.
