  • A Party Banner Website, is it worth it?

    Hi.
I have been toying with the idea of setting up a website to a promote party banners. It would be template driven. A selection of styles and you can add your own text. Is there enough biz out to warrant setting it up?
The hardest part would be setting up the site. I can do that end of it myself so I don’t really mind.

    What do you think?

there are a good few already doing it mate, but badly!
the trouble i see with a website as such is… "if you were looking to buy something like this, would you trawl through google pages looking or would you prefer to pick-up the phone after a browse through yellow pages or Thomson local?
by all means setup a site promoting the banners, complete with templates etc that way when you do get a call etc you can use the site for showing past samples of work you have done.

Peter I just had a look at that site. Never mind compete, how do they pay the bills?? Based on their prices not hope. I would be setting the site up for Irish customers. I did a quick look and there I did not notice any decent sites over here.

Rob, my idea was set up the temp driven site with drop down menus for adding your own text b4 you check out, so I get mail to say an order has been placed, the details are, A,B & C and it is to be posted to Joe Bloggs. The mail also tells me the money is in the account.

I am also thinking of it for canvas prints and picture enlargements, there are currently a few good looking sites for that. Any ideas on that.

I didn’t check out the other site but what I was thinking is
A: people are spontaneous, time is of the essence, and every job would be a rush, hence expensive shipping costs
B: people are cheap and you can get banners cheap online or at some party stores
C: it would probably not generate as much work as it cost you in time to build, host, and maintain the site
    Love….Jill

Sorry for my abrupt reply Dermot. It’s just I have spent a few busy days fielding petty enquiries while trying to get some important jobs out of the door on time (i.e profitable, and from customers that I rely on to provide a lot of repeat business).

I feel very strongly that you can easily get yourself bogged down in time consuming low value "one off" jobs. And (for the same reasons as Jill has just given you) I can’t see party Banners being particularly lucrative to be honest πŸ˜•
