Graphix Advantage problem
Posted by Paul Sinnott on 29 March 2009 at 18:19Hi Guys,
I have bought myself a Gerber Edge.
It’s an older version, but should be ideal for my needs.I am trying to load the software and it is saying that the ‘Rainbow’ drivers are not installed.
I have the dongle and the original disc.Could someone tell me how I do this please ?
Computer is XP Pro version.Thanks

Not sure, but I seem to remember that the dongle needs to be installed before GA, so try uninstalling the software, plug the dongle in then windows should find the drivers on the disc?
Not much help, but worth a try

Cheers Peter,
The problem is that windows is not seeing the dongle.
It is a parallel port type as it’s the older version.
I looked on the disc but it doesn’t have the XP drivers 🙁
I may have to set my laptop up with windows 2000 but I was hoping to be able to use several computers with the software on as I was going to do the artwork at home.Paul

Which # of GA is it?
When I bought my GA 6.2 new in 1998 (which I still use daily) it was installed on a Win95 PC. I think your computer might be too new.
Maybe Tony Teveris, a member here, might pop in.
He knows a lot about Gerber.

Grafix Advantage is not compatible with Windows XP, after many hours this was true, it was dongle related via the installer.
I had to go to Gerber Omega in the end.My advise to you, is to get a Windows NT/98/95 machine and network it to your XP machine, it will be the only way and cheapest way.
(Also SignLab as I understand it will run the Edge)

Dave’s right. It wont work on XP.
Get an older OS and it should work for you.Stevo

lol, i guess u did Jill hehe
also Gerber are now posting on here, cant remember the name -
Thanks for the replies,
Version is 6.21
Setting up a computer with w98 or similar won’t be a problem as I have a couple spare – It would just be easier to use my comfy chair computer with the large screen.
I may be back with some more questions as I progress :lol1: -

Attach the second PC to your Large screen using a – Data Transfer Switch – cost new couple of pounds. Have two PCs running at the same time and just switch between each.

Thanks Vic,
I was planning to set up a second hard drive and switch between the two – one for home and one for work.
Your idea sounds better though, I will give it a try.Paul

Guys, I have now got a computer up and running with Win 98.
But when I try and install GA 6.2 it asks for a password to upgrade from 4.xAny thoughts ?
-
you should use a network card between the two, might need to add netbios to the XP/Vista machine, not sure.. nice easy 😉

Am I being a bit thick ?
I expected that I could upload the software onto a computer and then be able to do the art work required and then print the labels and then cut them out ready to use.Why am I having issues when I bothered to buy a working machine, complete with software and dongle ( albeit an old version thereof ) . from a legit signmaker 😕
I have now spent so much time trying to get the answers that I feel like giving up before I have even started 😥

Maybe the seller upgraded the software, from V4 the original, and failed to give you the password and the original discs so you could to do the same,I would say you need to contact the seller, who more than likely forgot that he had upgraded, and ask for the password and any other discs he has

Thanks Peter,
I have done that, just awaiting reply.
I was so eager to get going, but I am gradually losing my enthusiasm . -
If you have a Win98 then he is what I would do.
On the Gerber CD you should find a folder referencing the Rainbow (now SafeNet) driver. I would install that first before installing the Gerber software. Also when installing the Rainbow driver do not have the security key installed. After installing the Rainbow driver configure the driver so that it is only looking for the security key on the USB port. You do not want the driver poking at the parallel port because you will be printing from that port.
Once installed you can attach the security key and then install the Gerber software.
Everyone is correct that GA 6.21 will not work on XP.
