  • Joining printed banner

    Hi all,

I had a customer ask me today for some 2m x 2m digitally printed banners. I can only print up to 1.37m wide. He’s happy to have a join it as it’s to used as a back drop to a ball game for kids.

Can I join two parts together with double sided tape, will it be strong enough, or do I have to get it stitched or welded?

Can any suggest a d/s tape that I can use to do the job, what about the d/s tape that can be used for hemming banners? Will that be OK to use.

Hope it will work, as he said there will be lots of these banners to do :o)

    From Mark

PS: Does any one get notification sent to their emails any more when some adds to the forum, as I don’t any more.

dont use tape, it dosent work tends to peal after a short while. Welding it is your best bet. Stitching could be a bit challenging

i still suggest 1 peice, sometimes a printer will print one bit longer then the other bit. When this happens the prints wont line up. Can happen if you print on a near end roll and then print the second bit on a new roll, the weight will make the printer feed a touch slower.

Or design the banner where it is easy to join, we used tape in the past.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for your info. Did the tape work when you used it? Its only for light work, its not outside. What if I used tape, and put eyelets on the edges so it had a more mechanical fixing as well.

Tape will work fine indoors, just don’t use it outdoors for large prints.

If you guys get the ‘power tape’ range over there, they have a specially formulated d/s tape especially made for banners called ‘banner bond’ Its about 50mm wide and supper thin.

I’d get it welded myself, but ‘banner bond’ works well, but I only use it for temp signs or for the odd quickie 😉

Check your profile and make sure the appropriate boxes are ticked, make sure uksignboards is white listed if you have spam/virus protection. If that is all ok, contact your host and make sure they don’t have virus protection that has UKSB black listed.

Did a banner once. About 10 metres long. It was 10mm off the whole distance. Lucky from a distance you couldn’t really tell. Up close you could.

We just finished some oversized banners and we used what we call here as "mighty bond" glue (or other similar glue products). We might order a "seaming machine" soon and our new 3.2meter solvent printer will also be delivered next month.
