Sublimation question
Is there a product you can apply to give polyester base for sublimation?
I’m thinking that if we were able to spray a substance onto a cotton t-shirt we could then sublimate on top.
Is there such a product, or is this a REALLY stupid idea?

Subli Supplies do something but im not sure if it can be used on fabric, I have a feeling it might just be for ceramics and such.

Do you stuff to spray onto 100% cotton that you can recommend as there is a lot on the Internet but i am afraid to try them??? 😎

Hi Louise, I think the stuff you’re talking about is used mainly in the U.S.
Have you tried the T shirt forum, or the dye-sub forum?They are both U.S based, and might be better to answer your questions 🙂
Failing that, if your designs are fairly simple (for babies?) have you thought of cutting stencils from vinyl and using fabric paints?

Hi all,
I don’t do any sub work but I think the stuff your talking about has to be brushed/sprayed on and baked at a high temp in order to dry. I could be wrong but I don’t think it would be any good for fabrics.Cheers John

Not sure where you find it but it comes on a sheet, its basically polyester on a backing sheet that you can sublimate onto, you press it on the shirt then sublimate onto it. seems a bit of a waste of time to me as to do it on dark shirts it would be white anwyay so you may as well use a transfer.

There have been rumours of a spray coating for fabrics, but I never been able to find one that anyone can guarantee works.
The sheets Steve mentioned are dreadful, sometimes sold as FOREVER Subli-Dark, sometimes as sublimatable vinyl, it’s like sticking a plastic sheet on to a t-shirt, nasty stuff.Gordon
