applying vinyl over panels
Hi,
If I am fitting vinyl lettering to the side of a can that has lots of panels and I have lettering going over Joins how is it best to apply the vinyl? Is it better to go straight over it then heat it up with a hot air gun or work in into the join while fitting.

Now with this pic imagine you are looking down the side of the van rear to front.

when ever possible
feed the vinyl in, if you need to heat it in on a double crve for instance, only do it with a suitable VynylPeter

Cheers Peter, what kind of temp are you looking at to heat the vinyl to?

Warm the vinyl till it looks happy,
You can see it start to tighten/shrink a little, then once you have fed it in you need to heat to the recommended temp to fix its memory, check your with your manufacture for recomended temp.

Matthew, as Peter says, the heating once applied is always the part people seem to miss.
A nice analogy (is that the word?!) Peter – "fix its memory" – sounds very professional!

Feed it in every time.
Anything else is asking for trouble later.

How about if I was fitting a big logo/disc over the panel would I have to use some kind of vehicle wrap vinyl.

For that, yes.
If only going over straight swages, then you can get away with calendered vinyl, fed in. If you have to stretch the vinyl in any way, then, yes, a wrap vinyl or, at least, a good cast.

Matthew, we do similar vinyls for a customer using Avery 900.
