  • Vinyl Shelf life?

We tend to buy our vinyl in bulk e.g 300metres worth per colour at a time and most of it is used fairly quickly, normally within 2 months of purchase, however not all the colours are used at the same time.

I recently popped a roll of white on our machine for cutting the other day, which is no more than three months old and I immediately felt a difference in the ‘feel’ of the vinyl, we had to adjust the pressure of the blade to compensate for this, has anyone else experienced this in such a short space of time?

I mentioned it to my supplier who immediately gave me a discount on my order but it is bothering me.

Ive always thought about 2-5 years, but mainly due to degradation of the adhesive.

We tend to give our stuff away after 2-21/2 years because of the shelf life, the vinyl is stored at the right temperature etc, just a bit of a surprise, I’m going to check the other rolls on Monday, maybe sending them back!!!!!

I’ve found in the past when it’s cold the vinyl can have problems when it’s cut. Some colours to tend to require extra pressure on the blade as well.
I think a general rule would be 2 years on the shelf normally.
