    Hi All

Anybody got any tips and advice on how to mount a (customer supplied) poster on to board? Can I get a large roll of double sided mounting tape and lay the poster on to it and squeegee down as if it were vinyl?

The posters are quiet large and don’t want to mess any up as I don’t know how easy it will be for them to get replacements and how much it will cost me to replace 😕

anybody done anything like this before?

    cheers

    Warren

    hi warren,
is the board adhesive like kapafix? we use the inside tube of vinyl roll as a big roller and roll it down in one. we dont use backing in case it ruins the image.

    regards

it is for internal posters and on any board I suggest to them ……

…. so what do you suggest? 🙄

Normally if I print posters to be mounted I print on to vinyl so have no experience on mounting plain paper posters.

we use kapafix as we have found other foam boards can warp! we print to glossy paper and then roll them out with big tube, if we get any bubbles (rarely) we pierce the back of the board with needle and force air out of the back,(so as not to pierce the image) I dont know if you can apply wet to kapafix, the glue is pretty forgiving though.

Has the Kapafix board already got the glue on it?

It can’t be done wet anyway as the posters are just regular poster paper, they are large maps of some sort for a shipping type business and get updated every year, I suggested mounting them as it would be cheaper than buying frames to put them in as they are quiet large (much bigger than A0) and there are 3 of them.

they do different styles kapamount, kapafix, we use kapafix and it has one or both sides ready to go with glue on it. i find it great to work with and the adhesive is quite forgiving, but when its down, its down!! You can cut it to shape with a stanley knife,(just be careful to go slow and keep knife straight or you get wobbly edges) or if you got a cutter kie a javelin slice it on that, then its mint!

    Dan
ive only started using it recently, but have done about 15 posters with it and its fine, if you look in our work section, I put a mounted poster image up today, under quite bizarre!

Can you not use spray mount or photofix on the board then laminate with clear vinyl.

Thanks Dan, that sounds like just the business.

They don’t need to be laminated as there is no reason to and they will be changed each year.

    thanks all

don’t know how they send it out in the uk, but from my experience here its worth buying a box then it comes with loads of protection, if you buy individual sheets they always get dented by the transport people.

Never used photo mount going to google it now?

p.s. we apply first and trim later, then you got room for maneuver if the print doesn’t go down completely straight

thanks Dan, my supplier have their own trucks and do their own deliveries so if it arrives damaged they take it straight back.

good point using an over sized board and trim down.

Tight next problem is that my supplier (Europoint) do sell KapaFix but will only sell by the box 😕 24 sheets per box and I only need 3 sheets 🙄

Anybody know who sells by the sheet or an alternative way to mount these posters?

    cheers

we buy in 8 per box?? Are you using 5mm or 10mm.

I looked at spraymount, it doesnt look to bad I presume you just stick to something like foamex or gatorfoam?

    goodluck

these are 5mm so maybe that’s why 😕

I really want to avoid spray mount due to working at home and in the past the results were not always so great.

I have seen laminators that take a 2nd roll of double sided tape to mount prints to board in a single pass so thought maybe some of this would work if I applied by hand.

some art frame people sell the sa board for mounting, don’t use spray mount it looks rubbish.

my laminator does the top and tail as they say but never done it.

i have tried to put the bottom double sided stuff on by hand but made a mess of it, because of the extra release liner it does not roll out nice.

there are other makes of self adhevise foam board out there, google and see if you can find another supplier or nip into an art shop and just buy a couple of sheets from them?

thanks guys, I’ll have to try find somebody who sells per sheet as the one size is 1800mmx1200mm so not sure an art shop will have these large sizes (well not our small one anyway 😕 )

The dry mount looks interesting too so thanks for that Harry.

    cheers

    Warren,

Up here in the North East we have a Ward Graphics that sell this kind of thing.

They are just a big arts and crafts shop…..might be worth having a look locally to see if you’ve got anything similar
