  • Different tile colours when printing

    Posted by Karl.Tipping on 27 February 2009 at 21:29

Hi all long time no log on

Could do with so input from anyone who has had a problem with different colour shades between tiles when printing.

I’m using a Seiko colourpainter 64S, Onyx 7.2 rip onto Avery 1005 for a van wrap.
See attached for an idea of colours.
No matter what I have tried I just can’t get a side printed that looks the same from front to back.
I only have so much hair I can pull out, any help would be great tried everything I can think of and a lot of tech stuff.

spin the tiles round, so they print the same way,
    alternate each one,

    nothing attached BTW?

Sorry Peter, hope this uploads now

Tried rotating tiles, also manually split tiles and sent them out as separate panels, we have two printers on two separate rips same problem on both, had engineers in they say no problems with machines, had rips reinstalled on reformatted PC,

    sorry Kat,
cant think of a solution then. I was only stating the obvious,
How far are the colours out from tile to tile?

    No worries Peter
any help from fresh eyes is more than welcome, I have tried a lot of things to get around the problem with no luck so far just wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem,

you can see a colour difference when they are fitted on a vehicle so not commercially acceptable, Tech talk there is about a Delta E value of 5 or 6 at its highest between panels

at first i thought the same as peter but i have to say that i have had print inconsistencies on avery 1005 not shown up on other materials.
out of interest have you tried your cheapest vinyl, i would print a foot of each panel to see.

    Hi Chris
I tried that too got a different shade not as bad but still not good enough I Used a different suppliers 5 year material for the test.
I have heard Avery have had problems with there material in the past but kinda ruled that out with the different material.

I think You can feel the frustration I’ve been up against with this one πŸ˜•

so u have ruled out that printing panel 1 and panel 2 on the same printer and rip doesn’t work?

I would accept Delta E of 1-2 on using two printers if using the same Output profile within the same RIP software.

    Hi Dave

To say I’m at a loss to whats going on is an under statement.
If I got a Delta E between 1-2 that would be acceptable but 5-6 on the same printer is a bit too far out to say the least.

The problem doesn’t stay with any one panel either it changes,
that’s the only reason we have managed to get a couple of vans out so far by mix n matching panels to get a good set.

I know its an expensive decision, but get in a sample of some Avery 1900 and give it a whirl, its wrap vinyl that we use, its a bit cheaper and prefer it to 1005 now.

So, here comes a question, will Avery 2000 (standard calendered) also cause the same problem? i have to ask

    only other ideas are
does the art work contain any fades, tints, transparency’s if so get rid of them.
    and or
as the main ink is yellow i think i would replace the yellow with cyan in a new file, wrong colour i know and print a bit of that see if there is a change with no yellow being printed, in a attempt to test the yellow ink system.

Dave I have tried the panels on another suppliers 5 year vinyl and the problem is still there so kinda ruled out that Avery vinyl was at fault but I will try on some Avery 1900 Monday.

Chris Hadn’t tried replacing the colour in the artwork I could give it a try not sure where to go if that prints OK, but one thing I haven’t done worth a shot.
