    Hi Guys

This might be a silly question but I have just run out of ink about 100mm from the end of a 2m print 👿 If I replace the cartridge it will carry on printing but the problem is the cartridge will only arrive tomorrow 🙄

the printer obviously won’t go in to stand-by mode and will stay totally on until I cancel and lose the print or replace the cartridge.

I am tempted to leave it on all night but the cartridge might only arrive tomorrow PM 😕

I’m just not sure if it is bad to have it on all night 😥

    It’s a Canon W8400 Pigment printer.

    cheers

    Warren

    Hi Warren,

I’ve done that with the versacamm and it fired up straight away the next morning when I put the cartridge in. Did beep all night long though!

does it sleep while it beeps or did it stay completely powered up and on? I’m sure it would be OK because what if I was printing non stop for 24hrs, it would be on and working hard instead of just staying on with an error message 😕

I think I might try it and hope the cartridge gets here early as I also have to deliver it tomorrow.

    🙄

    cheers

Warren there is a setting on the main panel that will overide the ink out mode so that you can finish the print. I asked the same question before and got this reply. Sorry but I am a dodo and cant remember how exactly right now.

😳 Sorry, that info is for the Versacamm, just noticed what make you have 😳

sorry to put a downer on warren, but it will probably leave a dirty big noticeable line where it run out. been there too many times 🙁 , that’s the main reason why i moved to bulk. you notice a empty bottle quicker than searching through the menu to see how much ink is left.

My jv3 will carry on after an ink change, but only if it has got all the spool data from the computer, if not it depends on the rip, if in will re-try indefinitely to send the data, or time out before it does.

hope you get it finished Warren

well I’m going to try it, hopefully it will carry on OK without any lines and the printer won’t blow up during the night 🙄

It’s worth a try, worse case scenario is I have to reprint the whole thing again which I would have had to do anyway if I canceled or turned off now 😕

I’ll let you know how I get on (just to close the thread and all that 😉 )

    cheers

well it must be my lucky day (think I might take Lotto 🙄 )

Ink arrived at 8:30 this morning (new supplier so well impressed)

put it in the printer and within seconds was printing away.

no problems at all with the print and it was through a dark solid area with a light gradient on it.

    Phew !!!

    (and I even slept OK)

    cheers

with 330ml inks at £120 a cartridge I only buy when I absolutely need to and that’s why I ran in to this little problem, but at least now I know it’s not all doom and gloom if I do run out mid-print 😉

    cheers

jv3 would have left a line… as the drying process and heaters on the material (ok turn them off)

    Hello Warren,

Good it worked out for you. Have a tip regarding your ink cost. I have been bying ink for my Mutoh pigment printer from Smart Inkjet at 1/4 of the original cartridge cost here in Sweden. Seen that they have 330 ml catridges for your printer at £48.99. Not original ink but the ink I have bought for my printer works fine, could be worth a try.

I’ll look in to it, great price and might be worth a try.
