  • HELP with partial Transit colour wrap

Posted by John Dorling on 26 January 2009 at 14:33

    Hi All

I am in the process of trying to do a partial wrap on the rear quarter of a transit. It’s not going well. It’s single colour, and I’m using oracal751c and I’m having to do it on my own.

The customer is coming to pick it up tonight and I’ve done everything but the wraps on the rear quarters as every time I try it’s just not happening, so I’ll have to have it back to finish it I reckon.

Is there anyone in the Suffolk area available at short notice (some time this week maybe) that would be able to come and fit these panels, and if so how much?

Below is the design. I have fitted all the text, the black stripes and the horses, it’s just the curved red wrap that’s giving me problems!

    Thanks

    John

    Hi John

I have found 751c quiet difficult to wrap with and would prefer to try maybe Avery 900 range (only other one I have used) but there might also be other alternatives out there you could use that will make the fitting easier and you could get it done yourself.

I hate to suggest it but there ate also the bubble free options with the likes of Hexpress from Hexis, large colour range too.

    good luck

I like Mr Egmores design by the way, clean and neat, no need for the multicolour stuf…. except I am off formal serif Capitals at moment and also don’t like horses…… :lol1:

it can be done with 751, and in this case may be the only solution as the rest of the image has already been laid, just corners that are the problem, other makes probably dont have an excact colour match.

Did you do it in the cold John? is one of the most relevant questions.

Apart from that it’s ok then? 😛

I agree with your comments though. It’s much more effective than the vast majority of full wraps, at a fraction of the price. Excellent stuff.

Mr. Normington may be right that it is possible with 751, but it would have been far from our first choice. I’m with Warren and would have chosen Avery 900.

Are you heating the vinyl to pull it round the corners?

It wouldnt have been my first choice either John,

    Hi All

Thanks for the replies! I haven’t actually been on the boards for a few days as I had to go away for the weekend, which didn’t help.

OK, I would agree with you all that 751 is actually pretty bad for this type of job, and was a bad choice on my part. In my building the air was cold but the van wasn’t as I use infra red heaters to warm the vehicle up (not warm to the touch – just to take the chill off). The design is supposed to go round the rear post of the vehicle up to the doors. The main problems were the material I was using and the fact I had no help! An extra pair of hands may well have got the job done.

I have now sorted the job thanks Peter, and have taken the decision to get an experienced fitter in to help do it. I have another one of these to do as well, its the same design but the colours will be reversed i.e silver onto red. I will post some photos when they are done.

Thanks again for the helpful comments. I must say that being new to wrapping does make you realise how difficult it can be and gives me even more respect for the people who come up with some of the brilliant work found in the portfolio. Keep up the good work :clap3:

    Thanks

    John
