What Cutting Table Do You Use
I need a new cover for my cutting table but glass is out of the question as I cant get a section of glass big enough through the door. Does anyone use a metal cutting surface? Whats it like, any cons to using metal?

quote Paul Humble:any cons to using metal?I’ve never used metal, so have no direct experience, but I would have thought that blade metal is likely to be harder than desktop metal. Therefore I would expect to get score marks on it.

I used to use a galvanized steel table top for cutting packaging materials.
It does tend to leave grooves in the surface from prolonged cutting in the same places.
I’m currently using a bit of 5mm foamex. Seems to work quite well and it doesn’t blunt your blades as quickly. -
Im using 5mm Foamex too, I can replace with galvanised for the same price as there is a steelworks in our yard. Ive no issues with Foamex other than it carves up quickly leaving deep ruts.

Do a search for POLYPROPYLENE.
I’ve been using it for years and it’s nigh-on indestructible, doesn’t blunt blades, non-stick etc.
8×4 in 3mm should set you back much more that £25-£30.

I’m with David on this – polyprop for me too – seems most cost effective – no bits coming off like foamex (which have used in past), and doesn’t seem to end up with deep grooves.
