can anyone tell me how much it costs to print a meter?
Posted by Paul Seamer on 15 January 2009 at 13:21Hi guys,
With ink prices going up. I’m trying to figure out how much roughly it costs to print a meter. normally printing 760mm with Eco Sol Max ink.
Thanks
Paul

A more generally applicable data would be: how many square feet or meter can a liter of ink print?
to be more specific, you can add: using a particular kind of printer (say the Roland versacamm) on a particular print mode?
I’ve been wondering about this for a long time also.

There will never be a hard and fast rule. It depends what you are printing what mode etc. But if we have to calculate our ink costs to the cent then we aren’t charging enough for what we are producing.

Depending on what RIP software you’re running, you may be able to calculate an ink usage on it. I’ve even heard of people weighing carts before and after prints. Not sure how well that works though seeming most printers use a sub tank and only draw from the carts when needed.
If you have ink calculation on your software as I have done in the past, Ive found it easiest to print a 1/2 sq/m of black with 100,100,100,100 mix of colour, then you can use this as a worst case scenario.
I guess it all depends on what your margins are, even if you’re out a couple of bucks a square metre, for most people selling to the end user won’t hardly break the bank?

New version of Wasatch (Troop) 6.5 has built in calculater, you input how much you pay for ink and media and it works out how much a print will use.
